Clearly, I am having a little an obsession with my town, since I posted about it yesterday but today instead of driving around Newport I got to ride my bike. I love riding my bike to the beach! I grew up across the street from the beach but now I live about 5 or 6 miles from the ocean so riding my bike to the beach makes me feel like a kid again. My mom never let us watch television during the day, so on the weekends if we weren’t at the beach my mom would say “get out the house, get on your bike.” So I spent most of my childhood riding my bike along Seashore and on the boardwalk to the Wedge. So whenever I have a chance to ride my cruiser, which isn’t very often, I jump at the opportunity. Lou was still sick so he wanted to take a nap with TT after her morning meds so I convinced Trinity to ride with me to Balboa and take the ferry across. She was complaining about it being too far, but Lou told her “you can either ride with your mom or stay home and do your reading while Tiara and I sleep.” Needless to say, she picked the first option, so off we went.
Once we got across the ferry she decided we should keep riding to the Newport pier since she wanted a TK Burger for lunch. She started to get really bummed because the beach was packed and she didn’t wear her swimsuit. She loves to swim in the ocean even when it is freezing, and it was freezing, or at least my toes thought so. I told her “let’s text Dad that you want to stay and swim and see what he says.” Lou is a total sucker for any type of swim/sun activity. I knew that even though he was sick, he would probably offer to meet us with her swimsuit and towel. Sure enough, 2 minutes later my phone rings. “Hey, do you want me to ride down and bring her stuff?” “Well, I do, but you are sick. It would be better if you drove it down, but I don’t think you could find a parking spot.” He then paused, “I think I can make it, I will call Grandma to watch TT.” ” Perfect, see you in a bit.”
So as we waited for him to arrive we decided to eat our lunch on the concrete ledge overlooking the beach at the Newport Pier. I was so surprised to see that the beach was literally packed with people. The closet lifeguard towers each had 2 lifeguards per tower, I have never seen that. Well, in reality I don’t know if I have ever sat on the sand next to the Newport Pier before, so I don’t know whether this is common or not. As a local, we always frequented only certain beaches. I only went to Orange street as a kid, and this is still my preference. In junior high, we all went to 32rd street and then in high school it was 10th or “L”, so I guess I never took the time to actually see what was going on at the other beaches. As Lou said when he got home from the swim, “wow, there were a lot of freaks out there today, almost made me look normal.” Haha, Louie. I didn’t see any freaks just tons of families picnicking and enjoying themselves. Trinity and I were fascinated by the mass quantity of actual tents, like camping tents. Lots of families had fold out tables and a few even had cooking stoves. Wow, I guess this must be because everyone is worried about skin cancer because 10 years ago, I don’t think I ever saw tents on the beach. But then again, maybe I wasn’t paying attention. I was a little surprised to see 2 women walking along the beach selling bracelets and purses, I definitely know I have only ever seen that in Mexico. Well, everybody’s got to make a living somehow.
Anyways after I rode home from the beach, I was feeling super happy and excited about having the day off. Normally all my days are pretty much the same but today I felt like it was Memorial Day. I went to the market and bought steaks for Louie and the kids, corn on the cob and stuff for Strawberry Shortcake. I never buy pre made baked goods and my kids are always begging for that crap, so Trinity jumped for joy when she saw what I bought at the market.
So in conclusion, we all had a great Memorial Day, except maybe Tabitha since she worked, but yet she loves to work, so Memorial Day was a success. Hope you all had a great 3 day weekendAll is good in the Goff house today, and now back to the grind for the rest of the week.

We had a festive bike ride on the board walk yesterday too (flags and all)…. It was packed – I was a wreck riding behind our 5 year old, watching her navigate through the crowds. There were definitely “all kinds” of people out at the beach. It would have been fun to run into you guys! It does remind me of when we were young…
We lounged and picnicked on 52nd after the ride and the girls rode the waves, played smash ball and made sand castles – an absolutely gorgeous memorial day celebration! Today – another gorgeous day…so lucky 🙂

I would have been panicked riding behind her too. So happy we both had a great beach day. We have to start walking again, do you still like to walk? xo

I have been going to the gym off of University. It is really clean and they have unlimited child care for $20 month. Sloane loves it. But I would really like to mix it up with walking and you still need to come see our house. There are tons of walking trials around here. What days/time works best for you? Sloane is in preschool on Tues/Thurs 9-12 next to Mariners Library (I see Liz there all the time). Lets put something on the calendar!
