Where the heck is the new wheelchair?

Jul. 29, 2013

Ok, I am losing it without a wheelchair for Tiara because I can’t exercise.  As you know most mornings we walk or rather she sits in her wheelchair listening to music and I push her.  Either way she gets fresh air and I get a serious workout.

As you probably read last week, the wheel fell off in Costco last Tuesday.  I put the old wheelchair out by the trash and ordered another one right away on Amazon.com last Wednesday.  Lou saw it out by the trash on Friday and said to me  “Tiffani did you put the wheelchair out by the trash?”

Me:  “Yes, remember I told you the wheel fell off in Costco 3 days ago.”

Lou:  “I am going to”fix” it for emergencies until the other one arrives.

HMMMM, he doesn’t usually offer to fix stuff right off the bat so I am not sure of his motivation.  Maybe I am being so moody from lack of exercise he is trying to help?  Of course after he fixed it he didn’t put it back in the car or in the garage.  He just left it sitting smack in the center of the walkway to the front door so every time we walk in or out we are greeted by the ugly old broken chair as a reminder that I am totally house bound.  I finally put it in the garage but now I am wondering if it could survive another 4 mile walk.  I just pulled it back out of the garage and pushed it around the front walkway and it seemed ok?

I just asked Lou if he thought the chair would make it around Balboa Island and he said “NO, only for emergencies Tiffani.”  I think the fact that I haven’t walked this week is an emergency but I guess he means like a hospital emergency.  Pushing her from the car to the door of the hospital?  I still am not sure if I should listen to him because he tends to be really negative.  Every time anything breaks in our house this same type of conversation occurs, like when the trampoline recently needed fixing.

Lou:  “Tiffani did you see the trampoline is broken?”

Me:  “It’s not broken Lou, the seam is just coming apart on the protective enclosure.  It has been like that for a week,  of course I saw it.”

Lou:  “Ok, no one is allowed in the trampoline, we have to get rid of it and get a new one.”

Me:  “What the heck!  They have been jumping in it all week.  I don’t think anyone is going to fly through that little hole at the seam of the enclosure.”

Lou:  ”  Oh, yes, someone is going to fall against it and then it will rip bigger and they could fly through.”

Me:  “Well, we aren’t getting a new trampoline so I think we should fix it.”

Lou:  “We can’t fix it, it is impossible.”  (This is that what he always says about fixing a drawer, the trampoline, a chair, a door or anything. And then this happens every time.)

Me:  “Well, we aren’t throwing it out or getting a new one, so if you don’t try and fix it I am leaving it the way it is and I guess someone will be injured.”

Lou:  “You are being ridiculous Tiffani.”

Me:  “Fine, but we aren’t throwing it away.”

He walks away with purpose to the garage to sort through his supplies.  This is the point he realizes he is going to fix whatever is broken.

He he then emerges with a roll of duct tape.

Lou:  “Ok, I will try duct taping it.”

Me:  “Perfect, great idea!”

And so he fixes it and we don’t have to throw it away or give it away.

As for the wheelchair, I don’t think I am going to risk getting stuck on a walk with Tiara and the chair breaking so I am going to skip my walk again.  That is unless I can get Tabitha to babysit?

4 hours later:

Can’t take it anymore, braving a walk in the neighborhood with TT in the chair.  Tabitha has agreed to pick us up if it breaks.

Yay for getting out, but hoping you get a new wheelchair real soon, because I know what you mean about going crazy being house bound with kids. And your husband sounds a lot like mine with fixing things, so I felt right at home fixing that he used duck tape to fix your trampoline. Here is to a great week now!! 🙂 xoxo!!

So glad you got your walk. I would go bonkers without exercising for a week. ” I think the fact that I haven’t walked this week is an emergency ” Amen sister. Glad Lou’s repair held up. Hope Tiara’s chair comes today.

Who is tiffani?

Mom, Wife, author of Loving Tiara, retired home stager, and chronic volunteer. I laugh when I'm happy, nervous, or stressed, so basically, I'm always laughing, and you can hear me from down the block if the windows are open. I love to swear even though it isn't ladylike, and I'm brutally honest, but in a super nice way, or so I think? I tend to roll my eyes, and apparently, my face is very expressive because even when I don't open my mouth, everyone knows what I'm thinking. My hubby and I are homebodies; I'm obsessed with always doing the "right thing " and taking care of my skin. I love learning, am always trying to evolve as a human being, and am a bit of a perfectionist. Let's have some fun! xoxo tiffani
