Where is my swing?

Sep. 03, 2013

tiffani goff at home

As many of you know Tiara spends a great deal of her day sitting on our porch swing in the back yard.  For the past 6 months she has become rather obsessed with swinging and jumping in the trampoline.  I am pretty sure the motion is good for her brain and helps calm her.  The swing has been on its last leg for a while and Lou get telling me it was going to break.

Every time he tried to take it down and put it by the trash, I threatened him not to touch it.  “Fine Tiffani, one day she is going to be swinging, fall off and get hurt.”

me:  “The swing isn’t more than 2 feet off the ground, if she falls she will be fine.  Plus if you take it down that means I have to order another one and I don’t feel like spending 200$ on new porch swing when we don’t have any money.”

him:  “Ok, if she gets hurt it’s on you.”

Well of course he was right and it finally broke on Thursday night. After dinner she was watching her ipad and swinging when we both heard a crash.  There she was laying on the cement along with the broken swing.  “I fell, I fell.”

Luckily she wasn’t hurt and Lou was home to move it over to the side of the house.  I immediately jumped online and started searching for a new swing.  Money or no money, Tiara had to have a swing and I knew it.  Thank you Labor Day sales because I found a great swing for $80 that was already painted white.  I think I paid $200 10 years ago for an unfinished one.

The bad news is she has been without it since Thursday night and we have all suffered.  Scratching, biting, pinching, pulling, hitting, and destruction of everything in her path has been her current state of mind since Friday.  If I wasn’t convinced the swing was therapeutic before, I have absolute proof now.    I finally got her to bounce on the exercise ball in the house as a substitute and that has worked a little.  If this crazy weather would go away she could jump more in her trampoline but with this heat she can’t.  She doesn’t have the ability to sweat so if she gets too hot, she will literally overheat.

Poor baby walks outside all day, looks at the empty space and just stares at me like “Where the hell is my swing?”

So let’s pray a big box shows up on my door Tuesday morning  just as I am sending my youngest back to school.  Yay, school starts today, thank you teachers!

xoxo tiffani

So hoping that it shows up today and my girls don’t start pre-school until next week, but I know just that bit of a break will be nice. Yet, I know I will miss them so, too. I sound crazy, but this is the first year that both will be going, so even though it is only 2 1/2 hours, it is going to be surreal not having either here at all!! 🙂 xoxo!!

Tiara takes her favorite clothes out of the hamper and tries to wear them even though they are filthy.

Oh gosh! I know how much my son’s trampoline means to him–and has been since he was 5! We have been through 3 of them in the last 13 years! He is 18 now and still gets out on it 3 times a day for about 20-30 minutes each time…he is skinny as a rail, by the way! LOL. Anyway, his jumping time is his time to decompress and talk things out (to himself). It is very calming to him. And it does stink when the weather is rainy. I know he is really sick when he does not go out to jump!

I pray that your swing comes today!! What a financial SCORE by the way! That is such an awesome find!

Who is tiffani?

Mom, Wife, author of Loving Tiara, retired home stager, and chronic volunteer. I laugh when I'm happy, nervous, or stressed, so basically, I'm always laughing, and you can hear me from down the block if the windows are open. I love to swear even though it isn't ladylike, and I'm brutally honest, but in a super nice way, or so I think? I tend to roll my eyes, and apparently, my face is very expressive because even when I don't open my mouth, everyone knows what I'm thinking. My hubby and I are homebodies; I'm obsessed with always doing the "right thing " and taking care of my skin. I love learning, am always trying to evolve as a human being, and am a bit of a perfectionist. Let's have some fun! xoxo tiffani
