It is 3am on Sunday morning and I can’t get back to sleep. Tiara just tore off the probe on her toe so the pulse ox machine was beeping like crazy and woke me up. Once I put the band aid thing back on her toe, I taped over and over it so she wouldn’t try and pull it off again. I then noticed she was snoring, and seemed to be “tugging” a little and wondered if she needed to be suctioned or needed a breathing treatment. As I was staring at her it dawned on me that someone moved the huge box of suctioning catheters I had in the living room. Where did it go?
I received a box of 100 suction catheters with sterile gloves last week and they weren’t what I wanted. They were really for someone with a trach, not just someone who needed suction occasionally. I was planning on returning them, so I left them in the middle of my living room by the computer so I would be forced to call the company. I hate returning stuff but I hate having random boxes in my living room even more, so I planned on doing it Friday. Suddenly I realized I hadn’t seen the box in a few days. HMMMM, Lou was off Friday maybe he moved the box to the garage. I just went out to the garage to check and no box! OMG, you don’t think he threw it away do you? That’s impossible! The only other explanation is his Mom stopped by and took the box by mistake but it was so big I don’t even think it would have fit in her car. I always save boxes for her because she does a lot of shipping for Ebay but she hadn’t been over since Thursday.
Where the heck is that box? There must have been hundreds of dollars in suction catheters. I am seriously freaking out because if someone threw them away it is a horrible amount of waste, plus I needed to exchange them. Tiara hasn’t been needing suction at home this past week, but she may need it and I need the right supplies! There is no way I can go back to sleep now so I tried one more thing.
I just tried to wake Lou up and ask him about the box but he thought I was talking about his work, of course. He started describing something about computers and 25% off and realized I was never going to get the answer out of him right now while he was asleep. You can wake me up in the middle of the night and I can answer questions about anything like I wasn’t even asleep and yet Lou is a lost cause in the middle of the night. I finally gave up on him and decided I needed to check the trash. I just took a flashlight and walked around to the side of the house where the garage cans are and looked for the box. NO box! I admit I was a little scared to run into a rat, opossum or raccoon so I checked really quickly but I would have seen the box if was there.
So now what? I can’t sleep because I am distressed over this whole thing but I know I am going to be really tired in the morning. The good news is that I have my post for the day so I guess I won’t have to worry about that.
On another note, Tiara is doing really well with the thickened liquids. My aunt and uncle and their 2 adult children started a reusable glass drinking straw company a few years ago called Simply Straws. They make these beautiful glass straws of which I use everyday. As soon as my Aunt Cyndi read the post about Tiara and that she needed to use smaller straws she emailed me. She offered to make her some medical grade straws out of stainless steel since we all know glass isn’t the best option for Tiara. They brought them by on Saturday and they work great! Tiara loved them and even drank thickened water through them which she hadn’t done yet.
So if you are looking for a great Mother’s Day gift for your environmentally friendly Mom or just your hip Mom, check out their website. They are having a 35% off sale for Mother’s Day with the code MOM35. FYI, My favorite straw is the long thick black one and the bent blue one. I can’t believe Mother’s Day is this Sunday, I had absolutely no idea until today! I am just hoping we won’t be back in the hospital. I have been feeling a little paranoid about going back there.
Ok, I am going back to bed now that it is almost 4am but I will finish this in the morning after I figure out what happened to the boxes.
Mystery solved! Once Lou woke up I told him about my dilemma and he finally went outside and checked in the trash cans. Oooops, there they are under the leaves and grass cuttings. Luckily they are double packaged so no leaves or dirt got on them. Of course he hates dirty things so he took out one package, brought it inside, showed me he found them and then left the rest of them in the trash. He was so upset about the whole thing I didn’t bother asking him to dig up the rest so after a while I went back out and took the rest out of the trash and put them in the garage.
It’s official, my husband is way too stressed out between his job and Tiara’s illnesses as evidenced by the fact he threw away a bunch of medical supplies and didn’t even notice.

Glad you got that mystery solved, but so sorry that you guys are indeed stressed out from all that has been occurring as of late. I am with you though that I can wake right up, but my husband sounds similar to your husband. Must be a guy thing!!

You are right, thinking it is a total guy thing, Janine! Seems like everyone is stressed whether they have healthy kids or not. I guess it goes with the territory of living in this day and age. xoxo tiffani

I love my simply Straws- mason jar and straw. How fun that is your Aunt.

So glad you use the Mason Jar and I love that one too. I just keep it away from Tiara or it will be broken. xoxo tiffani

Great straws and glad Tiara’s taken to the thickened liquids. Hopefully that’s the end of pneumonias!

Parents of special kids are over worked and overtired! I’m not surprised at all. I do things like that all the time!! I’m so glad the thickened liquids are working out, that Tiara likes them and that she’s cooperating!

I am so glad you found them. That stresses me out to the point I can’t sleep either ~ if I’m missing something.
Sounds like you all need a little bit of a breather.
