If you don’t want to hear about my underwear issues, you should exit this page immediately because that is what I am going to talk about today. This may seem a little personal but I am really interested if other middle age women feel the same as I do about underwear.
So here we go. Up until about 1989, right around the time I met Lou, I always wore regular underwear. I mean I think they only sold high leg cut full bottomed “normal” underwear, unless you shopped at Fredrick’s of Hollywood, which I certainly did not. Anyway my lingerie wardrobe consisted of cute colored undies in bright colors and patterns with lace.
Sometime around the emergence of the Victoria Secret era, thong underwear appeared on the scene. I remember Mara, one of very best friends and college roommates was the first to join in on the thong bandwagon. I was a little hesitant because they looked horribly uncomfortable but after Lou bought me my first pair in December of 1989, I slowly made the transition. How funny is that I remember exactly what they looked like. Burgundy nylon with matching lace, super cute.
I eventually made the transition to all thongs because I loved not having pantie lines. You butt doesn’t look as big when you don’t have a panty line. Then really low hung jeans came on the market and my under wear were always hanging out of my jeans, no matter what I did. My girls were horrified and always telling me “MOM, fix you underwear.” Thank goodness I finally found some low waist thong underwear, which weren’t as comfortable but they did the job.
And now to my current state of lingerie, I am tired of wearing thong underwear suddenly. In reality I think I am tired of always having to search for my own underwear. Every time I buy a nice pair that I really like and are comfortable they disappear. Funny! Not funny at all actually and the perpetrator in this matter isn’t Tiara but Tabitha. She hates to do her laundry and I have told her not to touch my underwear when she runs out but some how she finds her way into my drawer and suddenly all the good pairs are gone. As a result my pick of underwear has gotten pathetic and I am super frustrated.
Yesterday while browsing through Target on our daily trip I spotted the cutest hip hugger panties. Five pairs for $20, now that’s what I’m talking about. I quickly picked out 5 before Tiara could have a fit and threw them in the cart. I figured that Tabitha wouldn’t want to wear hipster undies, so maybe they won’t disappear? They looked adorable and comfortable. I decided that maybe it was time to switch it up and revert back to childhood ? I washed them when I got home and tried on a pair as soon as they were clean. Wow, no panty line and comfortable. Liking this!
Lou came home early last night, well at 6:00 pm which is super early for him lately, so he gave Tiara a bath for me. While he was doing the bath I changed into my pajamas. I suddenly realized I had forgotten to tell him about my new purchase. I ran into the bathroom and modeled my new underwear. He started laughing. “Tiffani, I love the mini pad!”
me: “Oh just ignore that, do you like the undies?”
lou: “Yes, they look great, but you really should cut out the long tag in the back.”
me: “Oh, good idea, it probably looks bad?”
And there you have it. This is what I have stooped to after 21 years of marriage. Modeling underwear for my hubby in front of my kids with a mini pad on and a big tag sticking out of the back. Priceless and pathetic all at once.
Thought this post would make you laugh considering how much I embarrassed myself.
One more thing, what kind of underwear do you wear?

Of course they give me panty lines – big, thick ones!

I go back and forth, but pretty much feel the way you do Tiff! Like your other reader, I love my cotton fruit of the loom hipster underwear for comfort!!! But a GOOD quality thong is usually comfortable so I can handle it for the work day or a night out- but that’s it! Love your new find, I’m gonna check those out:)

Think you will love them. How funny that I have never worn a pair of fruit of the loom underwear in my life. Guess you wear what your mom wears.
Mikela Nolan says
Yeah, I can say for sure my mom NEVER wore a thong in her life. I have worn them and really beautiful La Perla ones as well. In the end, the cotton hipsters feel the very best.

Hmmm, I don’t think my Mom has ever one a thong either, I was thinking about myself and the fact that Tabitha wears a thong like me. Guess I messed up the tradition of wearing suitable underwear for my girls. Oh well, only one of many mistakes! 🙂

I prefer the totally seemless ones from Victoria’s Secret myself. I have a huge drawer full of every style though. You are funny. In 22 years of marriage I’ve never modeled my underwear wearing a mini pad for my hubby. Have a happy Sunday! Stacie xo

That is because you are normal Stacie, unlike myself. xoxo tiffani
