I have to say we did so many things in New York I can barely remember everything we did, but we had the BEST time ever! We walked almost 5 miles everyday, took the subway, a handsome cab, a rickshaw and lots of regular cab rides. We arrived at Samantha’s apartment on the upper Eastside at about 9:45pm on Friday which was much later than we anticipated because the flight was late.
Sam ordered us Sushi to eat at her beyond fabulous apartment, which was perfect because we were all starving and it was way too late to go out to dinner. After dinner the girls and I were dying to get out in the city even thought it was already 11pm, so we walked to a Yogurt store which happened to be closed but we could have cared less. We just wanted to get out and see the city right away.
Saturday we had a very full day. We took the subway to FAO Schwarz, walked to the American Girl Doll store, then to a few local stores then off to lunch at this fabulous deli/buffet style place. I have to say I am obsessed with the food in New York. You can find a yummy place on every corner. Most of the “buffet” places are filled with fresh roasted vegetable concoctions and then food for non veggie lovers, like Fried Chicken, panini’s, and fresh pasta. I already went to the market and bought Brussels sprouts to try and replicate the warm roasted Brussels sprout Caesar salad I had at dinner one night. I can’t stop thinking about it.
After lunch we walked to Soho, stopped by ice rink and took the train to Union Square and then over to Baltazars for a drink to meet Tabitha’s high school friend, Tori who attends NYU. Tabitha left with Tori for the night and Sam, Trin and I walked home after picking up some food from a fabulous market.
Sunday, Trinity and I met Tabitha and Tori at Canal street so Tabitha could look for her fake Louis Vuitton bag. As much as I want a fake bag I refuse to participate in providing money for terrorism and gangs, but despite my protests Tabitha had to get a bag. She doesn’t seem to care about who the money goes to, or rather takes away from. I have to admit I am totally jealous because it looks completely real and is really gorgeous. I can’t really get into the story about how we followed a woman into a closed down store and were brought into a back room where they locked us in to show us the bags but lets just say, seriously scary. According to Tabitha, My own Mother has done similar stunts in countries like, Turkey. WOW.
Sunday afternoon we went to see Matthew Broderick in the musical, “Nice Work If you can Get it” and that was everyone’s favorite part of the whole trip. Samantha got us 5th row seats and it was so funny and entertaining we all left the theater happy and refreshed. Off to Dillon’s candy store and then a great dinner at one of Sam’s favorite neighborhood restaurants.
Monday we had a list of tourist items we still needed to complete so the girls and I went out on our own while Sam caught up on her own life for a bit. We took the subway to the Plaza hotel, took a carriage ride through Central Park, then took a rickshaw to the M& M store. After that we walked to the Empire State Building, went to the top and then found a place for lunch. We then managed to find our way to Grand Central Station while making a transfer on the subway all by ourselves and then took another train to meet Sam and Sarah (another friend of Tab’s who attends NYU) to Serendipity, a famous ice cream cafe. Tabitha left with Sarah and spent the night with her and the 3 of us walked more and then finally made it home for dinner.
Tuesday we got up and packed our excessive amount of clothes and went for breakfast at E.A.T., which I absolutely loved beyond anything. I bought a container of Roasted Artichoke hearts and an endive, avocado salad tossed with a mustard vinaigrette, for the plane ride home. Can you saw amazing?
And for the part you all want to hear about, TIARA. She was a perfect angel for absolutely everyone. She received 100% attention 24 hours a day and she never acted out except for a few times with Lou. So I guess if I devoted all of my attention to her and ignored the rest of the family we wouldn’t have to deal with any of her behaviors. Like that’s ever going to happen.
All in all it was a perfect vacation and the girls and I had a blast thanks to My parents, Lou’s Mom, Lou and of course Samantha!

Did you try the onion tart at Balthzar? It was one of my favorite restaurants in NYC when we lived there.
tiffani goff says
No, I only had a glass of wine, bummer I missed the onion. It is one of Sam’s favorite restaurants too.

That was even better than I’d imagined for you guys – and I had pretty high expectations.
Sounds like a wonderful, fun-packed experience that’s etched some really happy and “normal” mommy-daughter memories. That’s a very good thing! 😉
And the best news is that Tiara remained healthy and behaved well with her grandparents.
Total success!

LOVED it. Next time you go I have to come along. I think I had barely started my period last time I was there. Ha. Of course you saw all the NYC highlights so I just have to be content with whatever cool, funky places you find. The pictures were awesome. Looks like you had great weather. You all so look like cool Californians doing the city. 🙂
