Update on Tiara, March 28, 2013 1:30 p.m.

Mar. 29, 2013

Tiara was transferred to the ICU this morning around 6am after her oxygen repeatedly kept desatting.  A ran out into the hall to get help and saw her resident charting at the computer.  I asked her to hurry and help but once she got in the room she started checking the probe to see if it was on right and her oxygen was a true number.  I looked at her and said it’s a real number what are you going to do?

“Let’s reposition her.”  I explained that I already did that and she was non-responsive and was really declining.  I swear this resident was just taking her sweet time looking and listening as Tiara’s oxygen went down to 82 and she was already on the highest level of oxygen available on that floor.

Me:  “Shouldn’t we call respiratory?”

Resident:  “Yes.”

She didn’t move to grab her phone, walk into the hall or push any nurse button.  I felt like I was going to start screaming at her so finally  I said :
“ call a code or call for rapid response!”

Resident : “Not yet.”

She continued to do nothing for 2 more seconds and I finally said: “that’s it, I am calling for rapid response if you won’t .”

I looked at the nurse in the room and told her to call for rapid response and then ran out of the room and ordered the person at the desk to call for a rapid response now.

Everyone came running to our room in minutes but unlike last time no one was doing much.  They were all staring at her trying to decide how to proceed when the floor supervisor walked in and said, “Hey guys she was just here a few months ago and she gets really sick we need to move her to the ICU now.”

They moved her to the 6th floor and finally she started to receive the care she needed.  They did an X-ray and her whole left lobe is white with infection which is means she is pretty much only moving air with the right lung.  They then ordered an echo of the heart and an ultrasound of the chest to check the area around the lungs.

She is resting peacefully and is getting oxygen pushed into her lungs with the bipap.  I am horribly sick and am trying to sleep now that she is being taken care of.  I haven’t slept for 2 days and apparently I look like death as when Lou comes to visit he is afraid to stand by me in fear of catching what we have.

I have no idea how long we will be here but it’s not going to be a short visit as I had hoped.

xoxo tiffani

Oh no Tiffani! I’m sorry to hear that Tiara needed to be moved to ICU and that you are still sick as well. Praying for a speedy recovery and a shorter stay at the hospital than you are anticipating now. Hugs from Texas, Stacie xo

hugs to you both. Fight hard TT and get home soon. Tiffani, try to get some rest and take care of yourself. Don’t forget “you”. <3
PS. I have dealt with many situations like that at the hospital. She is "Your" daughter and just keep pushing and fighting for the care she deserves. we know our kids better than anyone.

Sucks! And resident docs are, by a mile, the worst (trying to prove themselves by being know-it-alls) – they have good education at that point with not enough experience but too much responsibility.

    Good wishes Tiffani!

Praying for you and sweet Tiara, Tiffani! I am so sorry you are dealing with all of this. Why don’t they ever take us seriously? I wish I had some sort of tag that said, “Listen to this mom, she knows her child!”

Many prayers for rest and healing for both you and Tiara.

    Love and blessings !!

Please take care of yourself. Hopefully, the hospital will do theirs. We all have had those experiences with residents; you do wonder why it still keeps happening. Get well soon. our prayers are with you.

    Dearest Tiffany,
How blessed Tiara is to have you as her advocate. The love and care you pour upon her daily as you live up the highest calling as her mother literally brings her life. I am praying for you and I will continue to do so… you have a small army of people at the ready to stand next to you through whatever you face…hugs and more hugs to you…

Who is tiffani?

Mom, Wife, author of Loving Tiara, retired home stager, and chronic volunteer. I laugh when I'm happy, nervous, or stressed, so basically, I'm always laughing, and you can hear me from down the block if the windows are open. I love to swear even though it isn't ladylike, and I'm brutally honest, but in a super nice way, or so I think? I tend to roll my eyes, and apparently, my face is very expressive because even when I don't open my mouth, everyone knows what I'm thinking. My hubby and I are homebodies; I'm obsessed with always doing the "right thing " and taking care of my skin. I love learning, am always trying to evolve as a human being, and am a bit of a perfectionist. Let's have some fun! xoxo tiffani
