The wife of a salesman…

Oct. 18, 2013

Ohhh, I forgot what it was like being the wife of a commission only sales consultant.  UGH!

I now remember why I was so happy when he finally became a manager fourteen years ago.  When you are a manager you make a percentage of everything sold, so even if the dealership has a slow month , you still get paid, something.  Well in  car sales that isn’t the case.  No sales equals no money.  Of course I’m not worried about Lou’s ability to sell cars, I know beyond any doubt he can do it but I realized after his first day I was a little more tense than I anticipated.

Thursday was supposed to be his day off because he works the weekend but we both decided he should go to work on his day off.  Hmmm.  I guess this transition may take a little time.

You may be wondering why he would go from being a manger for 14 years to going back on “the line?”  Well the truth is that great salespeople make much more than the managers in the car business.  Of course there are exceptions to this rule, but because Lou is really trying to fix our finances he decided to make this change for our family.  He had several management offers but none was exactly what he was looking for and the money wasn’t there.  So he is trying a new approach.

The good news is that Lou had a great first day of work.   I am proud to say that his very first appointment on his very first day of work was with one of my readers.  How awesome is that?

One of my readers sent me a Facebook message on Tuesday night asking what time Lou was working on Wednesday.  Of course I had no idea and at 10pm he still hadn’t gotten home from Ontario so I couldn’t ask him.  I gave her his cell phone number and asked her to try and call him in the morning.

Apparently he was scheduled to work at 11am on Wednesday so he had time for a quick workout before work.   When he was walking out of the gym a woman he didn’t recognize called out his name.  She was on her way into the Coffee Bean next to the gym.  She stopped him and introduced herself.  She was the reader who sent me the Facebook message the night before and recognized him from the blog.  They made an appointment to meet that morning, as she was thinking about buying a BMW.

Small world or what?  I thought that was so cool and it was super nice for my hubby to show up on his first day and already have a scheduled appointment .  Thanks Kasey!

The second piece of good news is that he had time to call me several times throughout the day.  Before Ontario he used to call me so many times during the day I would get annoyed, but for the past year he hardly ever called me during his work day because he was so busy.  Wednesday was like the old days.   Three calls and he didn’t even have to hang up after 30 seconds.   And the last piece of good news is that I felt so much better knowing he was just down the street.  It felt like a safety net I haven’t had in a long time.

As for the rest of the family.  The girls were all waiting for him by the door last night since they knew he would be home before they went to bed and were thrilled when he walked in  before 8 p.m.  Trinity was excepting him to be home at 6:15 since his shift ended at 6:00, so I had to explain that even though his shift was over, it didn’t mean he would be coming right home.  It still is the car business!

Love this picture of Tiara! Has nothing to do with this post, but oh well!

TT is still in her violent phase and her newest trick was squeezing my nipples when I changed her diaper.  Let’s just say I was beyond surprised when she did it and I screamed so loud and so angrily, I am hoping she won’t produce a repeat performance.  Always something fun and exciting going on at our house!

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

Sounds so far like the right move and just happy he is close to home and can make those calls during the day. It always helps to hear their voices and get to speak to them a bit during the work day. And so sorry about Tiara and hoping that you don’t get a repeat performance this weekend now. Also wishing you a great weekend indeed!! 🙂 xoxo!!

Who is tiffani?

Mom, Wife, author of Loving Tiara, retired home stager, and chronic volunteer. I laugh when I'm happy, nervous, or stressed, so basically, I'm always laughing, and you can hear me from down the block if the windows are open. I love to swear even though it isn't ladylike, and I'm brutally honest, but in a super nice way, or so I think? I tend to roll my eyes, and apparently, my face is very expressive because even when I don't open my mouth, everyone knows what I'm thinking. My hubby and I are homebodies; I'm obsessed with always doing the "right thing " and taking care of my skin. I love learning, am always trying to evolve as a human being, and am a bit of a perfectionist. Let's have some fun! xoxo tiffani
