the broken violin….

Mar. 13, 2012

the broken bow....ugh

Somedays there is a lot of crying in our home.  Yesterday was one of those days.  Trinity started practicing her violin, with an instrument on loan from school.  As she ran out to show me how she was improving, she put the bow on the couch so she could find the correct page in the music book.  At that moment, Tiara ran into the room and before either of us could yell or leap, she plopped her bottom onto the couch, and the bow immediately snapped.  Trinty burst into tears and as I tried to comfort her while Tiara screamed at us both ” I hate you!”   When someone is upset or angry Tiara immediately starts saying she hates the person who is either angry or in pain. It is her way of dealing with the negative energy.

I attempted to make a band-aid with red duct tape for the bow, in hopes she could still practice, but it was useless.  Trinity was devastated and I was wondering how much money this catastrophe would cost us.

It is so hard to find the right words to make it all better, because this is not the first or the last time Tiara will unintentionally destroy something one of us loves.  I try to protect Tabitha and Trinity from her terrors by keeping child safety locks on their room doors and reminding them to always shut the door behind them.   Years ago Lou and I started sharing a room with Tiara so neither of the girls would have to put their personal belongings at risk.  As you can imagine our room is not a sanctuary, but more like the aftermath of a tornado.

As I always say in the Goff home, “Nothing is sacred.”  Anything in our home has the potential to be destroyed at any moment, so don’t get too attached.  Sad but true.  The bright side is that Trinity is growing up to be an amazingly compassionate person.  Five minutes after the episode she came out of her room, walked up to Tiara and said, “Give me a hug, TT.  I know it was an accident”

Hoping today will be a better day for Trinity….

It sounds a lot like having boys, I know you situation is different but take splice in knowing that families with boys in the house live with the same realization that everything is subject to being destroyed at any moment and that everything will need to be thrown out eventually. Hope you have a better day! As far as the bow goes, Try releasing the tension off the strings and “sistering” the broken section by putting a few popsicle sticks along side the area and wrapping them really tight with some electrical tape and then adding the tension back to the bow strings.

Who is tiffani?

Mom, Wife, author of Loving Tiara, retired home stager, and chronic volunteer. I laugh when I'm happy, nervous, or stressed, so basically, I'm always laughing, and you can hear me from down the block if the windows are open. I love to swear even though it isn't ladylike, and I'm brutally honest, but in a super nice way, or so I think? I tend to roll my eyes, and apparently, my face is very expressive because even when I don't open my mouth, everyone knows what I'm thinking. My hubby and I are homebodies; I'm obsessed with always doing the "right thing " and taking care of my skin. I love learning, am always trying to evolve as a human being, and am a bit of a perfectionist. Let's have some fun! xoxo tiffani
