So a while back I wrote a post on my friend and author, Candi Sary. I hadn’t read her book when I published my post because it hadn’t arrived from Amazon. com yet but I posted the first chapter for everyone to read. I talked about how I knew Candi and she was a local Mom and I was very intruigued and exicted to read her book, Black Crow White Lie.
Since that time I have read the book, my Mom has read the book and my Mother in Law has read the book and we all thought it was unbelievable. We all agree that it is one of the best books we have ever read, yet somehow totally unique from everything else we have ever read.
The reason I bring this up is for 2 reasons. The first being, I love supporting local talent and I want to encourage everyone to buy and read her book. It is not often that you read a wonderful book written by someone you know or lives in your community. At least not in my life, until now. She is currently working on her second book and I can’t wait to get my hands on it. The second reason I bring this topic up is because recently I have been reading a book that is not yet published but I am obsessed. Here is the story.
Last weekend I was at a Grammy party and spent a long talking with a women named Noelle Cablay. I had met her several times before, but had never really spoken with one on one before. I knew she was a very special friend to one of my best friends, so I knew we must be of the same mind or thought processes or we wouldn’t share a best friend. She told me that she had written a book, Pieces of Sky, a memoir and was in the process of getting it ready for publishing. I was surprised to hear that another local Mom was an author. Who knew?
We started talking about how to promote her book and the process of getting it published or self-publishing neither of which I know very much about but we had a great conversation. I offered to promote her book on my blog for free, like I did for Candi, once it was released because us Mom’s have to stick together.
We exchanged information at the end of the night and the next day she forwarded me the first 2 chapters of her book. It took me 4 days to start reading it, but once I started I couldn’t stop. I emailed her the next day and begged for the rest of the book, much to the dismay of my family, I finished it quickly. I have a serious problem once I get my hands on a good book. I carry it with me everywhere I go. I carry it to the kitchen while I cook, to my bed, to the car and I always stick it in my purse in case I can read a few lines at any given moment. My family hates it when I am reading a book because I ignore them all, until it is finished.
I limit myself to only one book a month otherwise I would fall off the planet lost in my own world ignoring everyone I love and all my responsibilities. You may think I am exaggerating but when I was growing up I knew a Mom who did this. She was a really nice lady but she spent all her time in her room reading. She would lock herself in her bedroom and wouldn’t answer the door to her daughters even when they knocked over and over again. When her daughter and I needed a ride or something we would break into her room through the sliding glass door and make her get up. This was the only way to get her attention. She would eventually give us the ride she had promised but it was really hard on my friend and I will never forget this situation. It is a good reminder to me, how not to avoid the world through reading.
I always think of her when I get engrossed in a book. It’s funny how my memories as a child help me now to keep my priorities in line, 35 years later.
Well, it looks like I have rambled on and on as if we were in a one on one conversation and I just shared my most recent thoughts. I am just so excited about these 2 women and their incredible talent, I wanted to share.
Thanks for listening and I hope you consider buying Candi’s book and Noelle’s once it is released, you won’t be sorry. I will talk more about Noelle’s once it is available to the public.
