Someone please tell me spring break is over!

Apr. 12, 2012

We had some fun at Mariners Park today....
Spring break, Summer break, Christmas vacation, ski week, all wonderful times for everyone else, but a nightmare for me.  A break, means a change in routine and that means trouble in the Goff house.  While everyone else in Newport has gone to the desert, we have remained at home, like always.  This is not a pity party, just a reality.  Now if I had enough money to vacation during the breaks, I am not even sure I would go anywhere.  Tiara likes to stay home, so we usually do what Tiara wants because if we don’t, we all suffer.  As all parents with autistic children know, having a routine is a necessity of life and if you mess with the routine, all hell breaks loose.

Our normal, super exciting routine consists of Trinity going to school, Tab and Louie going to work and TT and I going for a walk each morning with a friend or her Nana.  Well, all 4 of our walking friends and Nana are on vacation.  We took a walk by ourselves on Monday, but it just wasn’t the same.  Every morning Tiara wakes up and starts listing all of our walking friends names and says “walk, walk, beach, beach?”  She loves to have me push her pier to pier or of course Balboa Island, but the rained showed up on Wed to mess with our routine even further.  After our walk, she takes a nap, I clean the house and work on my blog.  Every other day her Grandma comes over to play.  She loves to play with her Grandma so much she has developed an obsession with her, so I have to limit the playing time now or Tiara becomes more violent when her grandma isn’t around.  Such a bummer, because grandma loves to babysit.  After Grandma leaves we eat lunch, maybe go to the park, to a store or to speech.  Then off to pick up Trinity at school and home for Tiara’s teacher.  Her Nana comes by on Mondays and Wednesdays at 2:30 to play for an hour, but of course I already mentioned she too is on vacation.  While Tiara works with her teacher for an 1 and 15 minutes I prep dinner, finish my blog, help Trin with homework and then everyone eats.

This week, none of that happens.  No school, no walks with friends, no speech, no family dinners, no Nana, everyone is off doing their own thing except TT and I.  She is so over this vacation I have numerous  new scratches up and down my arms and neck to show how frustrated she has become.
At least I know my other two kids had great spring breaks.  Tabitha had a very long, and very fun spring break lasting several weeks as she continued to party with all her high school friends that returned from college.  So happy they are all back at their respective schools, super exhausting getting woken up night after night at all hours.  Trinity had tons of fun so far and has had 3 sleepovers this week, so she is pretty exhausted too.  Tiara is on her 4th night of waking up at 1:45 am and not going back to sleep until 5am.  Once again, probably the change in routine.  Lou and I are praying she will sleep through the night tonight!
The good news is today is Thursday, so we only have 2 days left until the weekend and Lou will be home to help distract her.  I hope everyone else had a fun vacation.

Now,  let’s hurry up and get back to the routine people…..

I’m ready for school to start back up. Lots of complaining in this house about how bored they are! Here’s to continuity!

Who is tiffani?

Mom, Wife, author of Loving Tiara, retired home stager, and chronic volunteer. I laugh when I'm happy, nervous, or stressed, so basically, I'm always laughing, and you can hear me from down the block if the windows are open. I love to swear even though it isn't ladylike, and I'm brutally honest, but in a super nice way, or so I think? I tend to roll my eyes, and apparently, my face is very expressive because even when I don't open my mouth, everyone knows what I'm thinking. My hubby and I are homebodies; I'm obsessed with always doing the "right thing " and taking care of my skin. I love learning, am always trying to evolve as a human being, and am a bit of a perfectionist. Let's have some fun! xoxo tiffani
