So a small miracle occurred today. Tiara went out to sit on her swing, which does many times throughout the day and as she went to sit down she noticed a granola bar wrapper on the ground. She stopped, bent over, picked up the wrapper and turned back towards the house. She then walked into the kitchen, looked at me and said “MOM, trash” and shoved the wrapper in my hand. First of all she is the one who threw it on the ground and never once has she picked up a piece without being prompted repeatedly, so I was beyond shocked and thrilled.
I immediately gave her tons of praise and she glowed as if she had won a huge prize. The second weird thing that happened today was this:
After our walk I helped her into the backseat because it was an easier transition than having her walk around to the front passenger where she normally sits. While I was loading the wheelchair, I saw her drop the ipad into trunk/storage area of my Prius. I had already gotten into my seat and didn’t feel like getting out to retrieve it until we got home so I asked her to help me. I would have left it there but the same song was playing over and over again and it was starting to drive me crazy.
me: “TT can you grab the ipad from the back?”
tt: “yes.”
Now the weird thing was she immediately tried to put her hand in the back area and reach for the ipad. She kept trying and trying but couldn’t reach it. She then started saying “can’t reach, can’t reach.”
me:” Don’t worry we will get it when we get home.”
She started to get really irritated she couldn’t reach it and started kicking my seat. We finally got home and the whole issue was resolved but I couldn’t stop thinking about how she had listened, understood my request the first time around and instantly attempted to complete the task. This was a huge accomplishment for her. Two big feats all before 11am!
Hope everyone has a great day!

That is exciting! Every once in a while Bethany surprises us like that too! It just goes to show that no matter how many brain attacks our kids have and no matter how old they are, they can learn something new. They don’t have a limited capacity for learning as some might think!
