As most of you know, my 25th high school reunion was this past Saturday night. I was so busy planning it, I really didn’t want to worry about my outfit but because of the fact that I won the best dressed award from 6th grade on, silly enough, I felt compelled to step back into my old shoes and find something cool to wear. To be honest, I hate shopping and worrying about my clothes but Tabitha is very serious about her wardrobe and mine. If I go anyway out of the ordinary she wants a play by play on what I plan on wearing. I always say “who cares what I wear, I will look fine.” And her response is always the same, “MOM, you have to wear something cool, really, this isn’t a joke.” I think it is a genetic thing we inherited from my mom. No matter how hard I try not to care about my clothes, I just can’t get away from it.
Either way, Lou was home from work Monday early and I asked him to watch Tiara and TT so Tabitha and I could go shopping. She dragged me in and out of all the stores in Fashion Island until we finally ended up at BCBG. My Mom, who is always concerned with my public appearance gave me some money to help buy a new outfit after I discovered Tiara had ripped the cute shirt I originally planned on wearing. We found a really cute dress in BCBG and it was a fair price, so we bought it. Once I got it home and tried it on for Lou and Trinity, I instantly realized it was too dressy. It was a white slip dress but the white was too much. Lou loved it and Trinity said she wasn’t a fan. After Trinity declared her honest opinion, she is such a mini me, her and Tabitha got in a huge fight over the fact that she didn’t think it was the right dress. Whatever, I just resigned myself to the fact that I was going to wear it whether it was right or not.
Friday rolled around and one of my best friends Sam was in town for the reunion. We worked on the decorations all day and then we headed off to my sisters store to pick out jewelry for my dress. I tried on the dress for Sam and my sister and the both shook their head, NO.
Sam:”You can’t wear that dress to the pizza parlor, it is way too dressy, it will look stupid!”
Me: “What, I am over it! I know it is too dressy, but I have nothing else.”
Sam: ” We are going shopping and I will buy your a new dress and I don’t care how much it costs. I so want to do this for you.”
I then called Louie and he said he would be home from work at 4pm and we could go then. We headed back to Fashion Island around 4:30pm and went through every store and I was so annoyed and didn’t want to be there. I would walk in, do a quick scan and then say, “Ok, let’s go, there is nothing here.” Sam was being really patient with me and kept suggesting items which I immediately discounted as horrible. Sam works at J Crew in New York and has impeccable style. She spends her day dressing people, but everything she suggested I was like . “No, No Way, don’t even bother asking” Finally we walked into Express and she stopped and looked at me and said, ” I am so over all these stores, we are going somewhere decent, follow me.”
We were about to walk into Anthropology when we changed our minds and went into Trina Turk. I have never walked into that store, because I don’t like to spend money on clothes anymore, I wear Old Navy, Forever 21 and stuff from Target. Ohhh, it was so nice. Everything was pretty and nice! I immediately found 2 dresses and they both fit and looked good. She insisted on buying both but instructed me that I had to wear the short brown one. Fine, I wasn’t going to argue anymore. She was paying and clearly I had lost my fashion self.
We then went to Bloomingdale’s and she found the perfect shoes on sale, Yeah. Of course she insisted on buying them and at both places she kept the receipts so I couldn’t attempt to return the items later. She actually instructed the lady at Trina Turk not to tell me the total and not to accept any returns from me. She knows me too well.
Sam is always offering to help me out financially and I always refuse her help. This was the first time I ever let her buy me anything and it was really fun for both of us. I have to say the day leading up to the reunion was as much fun as the actual reunion, which was a blast.
The reunion went off without a hitch, and I think everyone had fun. The great thing about everyone was that after 25 years most people are pretty comfortable in their own skin and are not showing up to brag or complain, but to just reconnect with old friends. The party had really great energy and everyone just seemed happy, I didn’t notice any drama. Poor Louie had fun, but I think he was on the verge of a heart attacking after watching Tiara for 2 days while I prepared. He is super grateful it is over and can go back to work today.
Thanks to everyone who showed up and special thanks to Becky and Sam and of course to my planning partner Steve, couldn’t have done it without you and your great venue. I guess we are doing it again in a few years?
Happy Monday!

Great reunion Saturday night! You and Steve did an excellent job. What a fun night catching up with ole friends and even talking with some classmates that never would have spoken to me in high school. LOL.
Everyone is already talking about the next reunion…..deep breath…you have a few years to recover.
Thanks again for all you do!

Tiff you looked stunning as usual…your beauty glows from the inside out. Sam is beyond sweet to take you out shopping and make sure YOU were taken care of. She is a great friend (and she does having amazing style)! Thank you for putting together such an awesome shindig – we had so much fun and my hubby was full of compliments about all our class-mates. Good people and you are so kind to keep us all connected. After 25 years it does seem that people are more comfortable in their own skin…it was nice to see and feel… Love you girl

You looked beautiful, but would have been great in a tee shirt and flip flops. I’m glad it was fun! Loved seeing you today! You are the best. xoxo
