One year ago today I posted my first blog entry about Trinity trying out for Junior Lifeguards. I have beat the odds by sticking with my blog for an entire year, which is amazing for me. Apparently most bloggers quit within a few months and normally I would fall under the quitting statistic because I am easily bored. But I love blogging and can’t imagine quitting. Funny enough everyone in my family is shocked I have stuck with it.
Normally bloggers make a big deal about their one year blog anniversary and host giveaways but sadly for you I don’t have a giveaway planned. Instead of a giveaway I have decided to announce some big news, which I know you will all be happy about, for me.
On March 1, Tabitha, Trinity and I are going to New York for 5 days! This is the story. Last year, my best friend Sam, offered to buy a ticket for Trinity and I to come visit her. I thought about it but couldn’t figure out how to make it happen. The whole thought was overwhelming.
January rolls around and Samantha calls Tabitha to check in and offered to send her a ticket to New York. Tabitha was so excited and came running in to tell me. She then said “I wish you could go with me, Mom.” My heart sank, I wanted to go with her so bad and in that moment I decided, I was going to figure out a way to make it happen. I then proceeded to tell her that Sam had made me and Trinity the same offer months before.
me: “Hey, Sam’s birthday is in the beginning of March, what if the three of us went to visit her then. She would love it.”
tab: “Do you think Grandma would watch TT?”
me: “Well, Nana already offered to help if I took Trinity to New York so if Grandma is available that weekend we could do it. I will call Sam and confirm the dates and then ask Grandma, Nana and Dad.”
Within 45 minutes I had everyone on board. Lou was the least excited about the proposition but agreed as long as he only had to take 2 days off from work. His normal Friday and an extra Tuesday. So the plan is we are leaving on Friday, March 1 out of Long Beach and arriving in New York at 7:30 p.m. We are staying with Sam in her gorgeous apartment across from Central Park. I haven’t been to New York in 25 years, Trinity has never been and Tabitha went 8 years ago but we have never gone anywhere just the 3 of us.
I am not sure how Tiara is going to handle it but I realized that I leave my healthy girls all the time to stay with Tiara in the hospital. I disappear for days at a time and they find a way to cope, so Tiara will have to do the same. Because money is so tight, my Mom offered to give us spending money once Sam offered to buy our tickets so the trip won’t cost us much at all.
Now all I need is for Tiara to stay healthy until we leave. So the reason I am bringing up this trip on my anniversary is because without the blog I don’t think I would have made the decision to take this trip. As my readers you are always giving me helpful and informative comments and many times reminding me to take care of myself and my other girls. This is me taking care of Tabitha and Trinity and letting them have 5 days to be like everyone else.
Thanks for keeping me going and continuing to support me by reading my blog!

I’m from NYC, and 25 years ago it was a totally different place. You will definitely notice all the rude people, but there are nice people here too :)It’s funny because one day I was watching your blog and I though to myself wow, she is so nice…I need to move to California. No joke, I started looking for jobs out there to move next year. The city has made me so hard and I decided while I love this place, I want my kids to be raised in a less demanding, crazy, rude area lol. Any plans for your visit?
Btw I was so scared when I read your last post. You are an amazing woman, with an amazing amount of energy. You really inspire me to always be the best parent that I can be.

Our plans are to do all the regular touristy stuff for Trinity and my friend Sam is an artist so I imagine she will take us to some amazing galleries and museums. The girls also want to see a show. My friend grew up in Newport with me and moved to New York several years ago. She loves New York but like you say, it is a harder life than living in Southern California. I can’t wait to visit and thanks for reading my blog and worrying about me. 🙂

You’re going to have an awesome time. March in NYC is still brisk (which is lovely) so plan accordingly. How wonderful for the girls – five days to be like everyone else and enjoy life. Five days for two daughters to bond with their mom and enjoy her and each other with nothing negative, lunatic or depressing. This is truly all good. Enjoy every minute of it!
As for the days before then, bleach on all surfaces, Lysol spray until there is a mist that chokes you (ha!), wash hands until they’re raw. And prepare your parents by reminding them not to poke the bear. Let Tiara eat whatever the Hell she wants. Keep her gloriously happy so she doesn’t attack them while you’re on the other coast.
Your friend Samantha is a treasure!

You have been an inspiration in helping me to make this decision. Your comments are truthful and sometimes hard to take but I know you understand how my girls feel, since you too were a sibling to a family member with Tuberous Sclerosis. So, Thank you Mikela for reminding how hard it is for my 2 healthy girls. xoxo tiffani

I read what Michelle wrote above and I laughed because I, too, am from NYC. We are accused of being rude; I’d rather call it being honest and direct – though I understand how it can be hurtful when it’s not the intent.
At any rate, I’m really really happy for your two girls. Museums, art galleries, some touristy things and just walking around and taking in the city is amazing. It will feel incredibly surreal – but wonderful – to them to enjoy a girl’s trip with their mother and enjoy life in a way that’s a really positive experience, especially for Trinity who’s known no other life. NYC is the ultimate pedestrian city so I hope you have clear days so you can tire yourselves out walking everywhere, hopping on subways and taking it all in. You never know, one of your girls may get the bug to go to college at NYU. 🙂

I am SO EXCITED for you! And for your girls! I knew that Sam was in NYC, but didn’t realize she is an artist. Now I have to do some cyber-stalking and try to catch a glimpse of her work–I’m sure it’s amazing. I’m sending all kind of protective, stay healthy everyone vibes and tons and tons of love to your family.

Thanks for all the stay healthy vibes and love. We are all very excited. I don’t think Sam has her art displayed she is rather private about it.

How fun. You have to report on all the fabulousness you three get into. That apartment sounds awesome. Tell us all you eat, buy and see. Woo.
