My home improvement plans for the weekend

Jun. 07, 2013

Me trying to get the bush out

Today I finally decided to tear out the bush/tree that I stare at everyday and HATE with a passion.  I knew it would be hard to get out and have been putting it off but after my walk today, Tiara was still sleeping so I went to work.  I first tried to dig it out but that was totally impossible.  I then tried to cut off the branches so I could get closer to the trunk and have better leverage.  Well, my cutters are horrible, so that was way too much work.  I finally decided to just saw the trunk down.  Let me tell you it wasn’t a fun job and I kept having to take breaks.  I was using a small pruning saw and just as I was almost finished Lou came out and said “Honey why aren’t you using the big saw?  You are wasting so much time!”

“Well, apparently I didn’t think about that and now I am almost done.”  Once I finally got it cut down, I tried again to pull out the roots.  No way, no how!  I decided I would leave it for the gardener to get out, I couldn’t waste my whole day fighting this stump.  I know when to give up.  And now that the ugly bush is gone, I can see even more of  the hideous fence that is desperately in need of paint.  Well, I guess I better get out the paint.

Trinity is driving up to Northern California with her grandma for the weekend so I decided I would paint the fence then.  I have made a big list of home improvement items to tackle since I won’t have Trinity to entertain all weekend.  Tabitha and Lou will both be working and the new caretaker should be showing up on Saturday for 4 hours.  I think I can get a serious amount of work done in 4 hours.  This is my list starting with Friday, since Lou will be off to help watch TT on Friday.

Friday:

1.  Power wash the whole house including the hideous driveway filled with melted crayons.  This could take hours and most likely Lou will beg to do this job instead of watching Tiara.  He loves to squirt down things and gets really crazy with a power washer.  He will probably win and get to do the work since I have an IEP for Tiara in the afternoon so he will already be on TT duty during that meeting.

2.  Take the 2 broken screens Tiara bent while trying to climb through them to Santa Ana to the screen repair guy.  He only charges $17 a screen, or something ridiculously cheap.  Yes I know you can fix them yourselves and I have tried before but I sucked at that job so I will leave it to a professional.  Plus one of the frames is bent so he will have to make a whole new frame.

Saturday

1.  Paint the white fence on the front side of the house.

Is this bad or what?

2.  Paint both white gates.

3.  Repair the drywall under the bar that is constantly chipped off by the girls because they shove the bar stools up against the wall.  Then touch up the paint.

Area under the bar.

4.  Repair the drywall on the front windowsill where Bailey used to jump up and bark at everyone.  I have done this job so many times but it needs to be done again.

Look how deep the gouge is? This will take several layers of junk to fix it.

Once I get all this done I will either be exhausted and ready to give up or I will be psychotic and keep going.  There is no middle ground when it comes to me and home improvement.  Once I get started cleaning stuff up, I usually just keep going until Tiara won’t let me work anymore or it is dark.

I will let you know how it goes.  I am still contemplating a potential move or rather incessantly bugging Lou about it.  I am trying to get my house perfect so if I want to put it on the market it will be ready to sell immediately and if I am lucky and we don’t need to sell, I will have completed the proper upkeep of my home which is sometimes hard to do if you are not motivated.  Parties usually motivate me to get my house in gear but since I never have parties anymore I have let a bunch of stuff slip.

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend and maybe I have inspired you to get a little work done around the house?

xoxo tiffani

I know you keep talking about moving; please don’t. This is where you should be…unless of course, someone is giving you a house to live in for free. All the work you are doing is your form of therapy. I think the yard work and your blog help keep you able to handle whatever happens.

Those of us who follow your life support you even when you do not know us. Know that and keep strong.

Who is tiffani?

Mom, Wife, author of Loving Tiara, retired home stager, and chronic volunteer. I laugh when I'm happy, nervous, or stressed, so basically, I'm always laughing, and you can hear me from down the block if the windows are open. I love to swear even though it isn't ladylike, and I'm brutally honest, but in a super nice way, or so I think? I tend to roll my eyes, and apparently, my face is very expressive because even when I don't open my mouth, everyone knows what I'm thinking. My hubby and I are homebodies; I'm obsessed with always doing the "right thing " and taking care of my skin. I love learning, am always trying to evolve as a human being, and am a bit of a perfectionist. Let's have some fun! xoxo tiffani
