My hair color journey: I’m BLONDE!

Aug. 05, 2013

As most of my regular readers know last September I embarked on a year long hair color journey.  With the help of Tina Scoville Salvucci and Sandra Slaga from the Color Boutique in Newport Beach I was able to experience many different colors and cuts through out this past year.

I am a natural blonde and have never had any other color hair in my life until this past year.  So for those of you that have missed the transformation month after month here is what we did:

AUGUST 2012

This is me last August at my 25th high school reunionq

 SEPTEMBER 2012

My first color change, red!  This was really hard for me, as it was my least favorite color.

My first color change, red!

OCTOBER 2012

From Red to Auburn.  I really liked this color on me.

DECEMBER 2012

During this transition we cut off 8 inches of my hair and dyed it a little darker brown.  This was my favorite cut.

Tt was in the hospital a lot during the first of the year so we got off our schedule a little between January and May.

FEBRUARY 2013

Here we went from dark brown to brown with color blocking to lighten it and changed the cut a little.

MAY 2013

This time Tina added tons of blonde weaves into the brown and started the transition towards blonde. Sandra added more layers and changed my bangs back to side bangs.

JUNE 2013

Tina added as many blonde weaves into my hair as possible and I didn’t get a cut this time, I just let it grow for summer.  This was a fun color but I felt like “brown haired girl going blonde.”  I started to get really anxious to get back to my original blonde.

AUGUST 2013

The final style!   Blonde girl being blonde!

final hair journey 2

This time I begged to be back to my original blonde so Tina said we had to pull out the bleach if that is what I wanted.  The bleaching process took 2 steps but apparently it could have been much worse I have been told.  First she bleached everything but the roots, then she washed it out and blew dry it to check the color.  Next she put bleach on the roots and added a second coat to the areas that still needed more.  This is when the whole process got tough.

Once the bleach hit my roots I was in serious pain.

She offered to take it off and finish the next day but I decided to brave it.  I am not sure if I have a low pain tolerance or am super dramatic but it was horrible.  The only way I could get through it was to keep wiggling in my chair with my eyes closed, like a little kid.  Both Tina, Sandra and Tammy the other stylist were all cheering me to help me get through it.

Soon enough she washed out the bleach and I felt a huge relief.  She then added a toner and we were done with the coloring part. Phew! Sandra and I had talked about going really short for the final cut, but I chickened out a little.  I really wanted to go back to my favorite cut she done when my hair was brown but just a little shorter.  I love this cut and think it is probably a good length for me since I hardly ever take my hair out of a ponytail when it is long.  With this cut I tend to style it often and wear it down, which is a good thing.

The funny part is I was expecting to feel like “myself “again once my hair was super blonde, but I didn’t.  I loved it instantly but like every other color it took a few days of getting used to the change.

Guess who loved it instantly?  Yes, Louie!  He was so thrilled to have “his wife back.”  According to him an imposter has been living in our home for a year but now the real TIffani is back and this Tiffani “doesn’t take any crap from anyone.”  I guess I was nicer as a brunette?

Of course the second person who was beyond thrilled was my Mother.  She hated my hair every color I tried because she said “it just didn’t look like me.”  As for Tabitha, Trinity, my sister, my niece and nephews they liked it but like myself it took them some getting used to.

And Tiara’s response, “Good hair, Mom, good hair.”  She seems really happy to have me blonde again which surprised me because she never seemed to notice when I changed the color except this time.

And how do I feel now that I have finished the whole journey?  I think I may change my hair color often in the future.  It was really fun and now that Tina and Sandra have been through so many changes with me, they know how my hair responds to certain cuts and colors so it feels like this journey isn’t over but has only just begun.  I won’t continue to blog about the changes but know that one day I may show up on your screen with brown hair again.  Shhhh, don’t tell Lou or he will cry, I mentioned it was a possibility and he instantly started pouting.

So Thank you again to Tina Scoville Salvucci and Sandra Slaga for making this such a great journey.   Remember these wonderful ladies are local in Orange County and are very reasonably priced so if you aren’t happy with your stylist, please give them a call, you won’t regret it!

Who is tiffani?

Mom, Wife, author of Loving Tiara, retired home stager, and chronic volunteer. I laugh when I'm happy, nervous, or stressed, so basically, I'm always laughing, and you can hear me from down the block if the windows are open. I love to swear even though it isn't ladylike, and I'm brutally honest, but in a super nice way, or so I think? I tend to roll my eyes, and apparently, my face is very expressive because even when I don't open my mouth, everyone knows what I'm thinking. My hubby and I are homebodies; I'm obsessed with always doing the "right thing " and taking care of my skin. I love learning, am always trying to evolve as a human being, and am a bit of a perfectionist. Let's have some fun! xoxo tiffani
