I just read something about a job and it instantly took me back to my first job. What was my first job? Working at my Aunt and Uncle’s “Chicken Factory” on Main Street in Huntington Beach, the summer of my freshman year in high school. It was one of those yummy places that cook whole chickens on the grill and then drench them with garlic or lemon butter or a combination of them both. So beyond good.
I can’t tell you how much weight I gained that summer. I was banned from ballet for the summer because of tendinitis in my knees so my parents told me to get a job. It was the perfect summer job a block away from the beach and most all the customers were surfers. You may think I enjoyed serving and taking orders from cute surfers all day but it actually really stressed me out.
I was only 14 and dealing with a constant flux of cute guys was super stressful. How better to deal with stress than to eat? And eat I did, everything in sight everyday.
Every morning they would deliver HOT tortillas which I felt compelled to eat sometimes with just butter, sometimes with chicken, sometimes with melted cheese, sometimes with guacamole and sometimes with a combination of them all.
And the best part of the my job. I was in charge of baking the Otis Spunkmeyer cookies. One on the tray, one ball of raw dough in my mouth. One cooked one in the container, one in my mouth. You get the idea. And how did I wash all the food down I consumed? With unlimited diet pepsi from soda dispense. No water, just soda!
Since my relatives owned the place they said I could eat whatever I wanted. I took that literally. I don’t think I ever left work without a stomach ache.
What was your first job?

Otis Spunkmeyer cookies were the absolute best, so I can see how you couldn’t resist. And my first job was working at a local Blockbuster Video around here. Totally brought some memories back for me on that one 🙂

First job….Let’s see…..
I was just 15 and I got a job as a cashier at The Original Irvine Ranch Farmers Market here in Newport. They were just about to open the new market in Fashion Island’s Atrium Court. Took my training at the Irvine Ave. store then moved to the massive market when they had their Big Opening!
Quite the opposite from you Tiffani. I got to eat all the fruit and veggies I wanted. LOL I had to learn every vegetable code and fruit code. For a kid…that was tough. I hadn’t ever seen or heard of these bizarre and rare foods. Irvine Ranch prides themselves on have ever imaginable bit of produce.
I felt so cool. I hopped the bus to work everyday. I worked in the ‘grown up world’. Great experience with really nice people. This job I wish I would have kept, but when September came around I had to quit to focus on school.
Thanks for the trip down memory lane! <3

I can’t believe you were eating fruits and veggies and I was mowing cookies. Sounds like a really cool job and love the fact you took the bus to work. xoxo

I can’t remember if my first job was at Charlie’s Brand or can’t remember the name but it was a muffin shop on Bristol where the Denny’s used to be. Chantelle you brought back memories because I used to work at Irvine Ranch in the corporate offices dealing with all the high roller credit card holders I too got to eat lots of fresh vegis and fruits. I got a monthly allowance of 100.00 that the owner would give me to go downstairs and buy whatever I wanted it was fun trying all the different items that I would of never bought. Thanks for the memories ladies have a great day!

I am trying to rack my brain thinking of the muffin shop and I don’t know which one it was. Where was Denny’s? Irvine Ranch sounds like it was the place to work. xoxo
