Do you ever wonder if the more expensive product is really that much better than the cheaper/generic version? Since I am always on a budget, I don’t really spend on expensive products except for my face. In my opinion there is no way a drug store cream could be as good as one from the dermatologist’s office. Just my opinion. But when it comes to my hair, my shoes or my clothes, I always skimp and avoid the designer/name brand.
Of course I would love the name brand shampoo, conditioner, moose and hair spray instead of the Kirkland brand from Costco but I figure it wouldn’t make that much of a difference. I mean it might, but who is really even looking at my hair besides Tiara? Plus I figure I am saving at least $50-$75 a month by buying generic.
Now to the point. We have one hair dryer in this house and I bought it at Target for less than $20. I am pretty much the only person who uses it and I have never been a believer in paying for an expensive hair dryer, curling iron or straightener. Tabitha on the other hand is of a different opinion. She decided on Saturday she need a new hair dryer to fix the front of her hair with in between blow outs. Yes my daughter pays to get her hair blown out once a week.
She went to our favorite beauty supply and bought a hair dryer, a boars head brush and a bunch of product. When she told me I went a little wacko and started complaining about her spending so much on that stuff. Yes, it is her money and she can use it how she wants but I don’t think she should be frivolous or wasteful with her hard earned money.
She refused to tell me how much it all cost, but I knew it was expensive. I did a web search on the dryer and I know it was around $100 dollars. Last night she used it to fix her and a friends hair. They came out of her room bragging about how great it worked. Hummm, could it really be that much better?
I decided I needed to find out for myself. So this morning I snuck into her room and borrowed it. First I was surprised at how light it was. It must weigh half of what mine weighs. And now for the moment of truth.
It was a zillion times better than mine. It was easy to handle and the heat was so much hotter than mine. Plus it didn’t blow my hair all over the place, it was like being under a dryer at the hair dresser. It was amazing.
I left it in my bathroom because she never returns anything of mine and I wanted her to see I had borrowed it. She came in later and said “did you like my hair dryer?”
me: “Yes, I loved it! I can’t believe how good it works.”
her: “You can use Mom, I don’t care.”
me: “No, that’s fine, thanks though.”
I then returned it to her room but to be honest I have been thinking about it all day. Why not use it?
The weird thing is that I have been taking the time to blow dry my hair since my last hair cut, right after New Year’s. I don’t even know if I mentioned to you Sandra cut my hair recently and it is my favorite cut ever. She cut it parted in the middle, took off at least 3 inches and layered the back just slightly. I have finally realized I like a blunt cut on myself but without bangs. Every time I have cut my hair shorter I always do bangs and I end up annoyed with them.
Since the cut I have been taking the time to properly round brush and dry my hair every other day and have hardly worn a pony tail. I am even contemplating going shorter next time.
Oh back to the dryer. So I think I should use it and make my life easier, why not?
As for Tiara, she woke up Sunday morning with a cough and a fever so I am praying she doesn’t get really sick.
This post feels really boring to me and it seems as if my writing has been in a slump lately. I spent much of the day researching changing my blog design and making a proper a logo. I am pretty sick of the chevron print, since it is everywhere. The new wordpress theme would be completely mobile friendly which would be nice for many of you because it would be much easier to read my posts on your phone.
So don’t be surprised if you wake up one morning and everything looks different. It will still be me.
Have a wonderful Monday!

I have so been wondering if an expensive dryer and straightening iron would make a difference, so thank you for sharing this here and definitely have to think about this a bit more now, because I have terribly thick hair and wear it mostly long and straight. So, may need to invest in one when I can afford to do so. And saying extra prayers now that Tiara gets better soon!! 🙂 xoxo!!

You may want to try it because I have seen your hair and it does look really thick. So annoying that the better stuff is more expensive. xoxo

Years ago I switched from expensive makeup and products and found there really isn’t much of a difference.
Also, I just left you a message using your contact form.
Enjoy your week!

I will use inexpensive nail polish and lipstick but I always tend to buy Mac lip liners because they seem to work so much better. Luckily I don’t wear too much make-up and pretty much use the same stuff everyday, so I hardly ever need to buy make up. xoxo

I can tell a huge difference in my hair when I use my expensive shampoo, dryer and straightener. I think a lot of it just has to do with your hair type though. I have a horse’s mane 🙂 you should definitely borrow Tabitha’s though if you noticed the difference!

I hate that the expensive stuff works better than the cheap stuff! So not fair!
