Is Tiara a movie star?

Jul. 10, 2013

Funny story.  Monday I was in Mother’s Market grabbing Trinity and I a Synergy before I picked her up from her Musical Theater Camp and I ran into someone from high school.  She looked exactly the same, so I recognized her right away and stopped to say Hi.

tt target

She reads my blog so she knew about my life even though I have no idea what she has been doing for the past 25 years.  That is one of the weird things about the blog but also one of the things I love the most.

When I run into people I haven’t seen in years but who read my blog, we actually have something to talk about.  I may not know anything about them at the moment we start talking but invariably the blog brings us to a topic of something we have in common and why they like to read it.  So we tend to start talking about “real” stuff right away and avoid all that weird phoney stuff where you both claim to be great and have a great life when that is far from the truth.

I met her son and we had a nice conversation and then she mentioned, just as we were parting, a comment she made to her husband during a recent trip to Target.

As they were pulling into the parking lot, they started talking about Tiara and wondered if they would run into her while shopping.  She said Tiara was like “a movie star” to them because they know everything about her and yet haven’t met her and were really excited about the thought they may see her in Target.  I loved hearing this and thought Tiara might enjoy the story.  I wasn’t sure if Tiara would understand the story but when I got home I told her anyway.  She totally seemed to get it.

She loved hearing that people were talking about her and thought about her when they went into Target, her favorite store and daily stomping grounds.  She gave me big smile and did her happy dance.  Her happy dance is when she grabs me by the neck and shakes us both up and down while yelling “YAY, YAY, YAY, HAPPY, HAPPY.”

Very cute and so glad I stopped to say hello because the story about Tiara being a “movie star” really made her day and made me smile!

I also think this is a good lesson to stop and say hello to someone you recognize even if you haven’t seen them in 20 years.  So many times people walk on by one another pretending not to know one another, for which reason I am not sure, except if you can’t remember their name.  Even that isn’t an excuse.  Next time you see someone you know but don’t feel like stopping and saying hi, just do it anyway.   It might just make your day.

I started reading your blog while staying on Balboa Island for 2 and 1/2 months. I confess, I hoped to run into you and your daughter around town. Never did and now I am back home in Idaho.
I found your blog by googling special needs help, looking for encouragement. I have a similar situation with my dear 18 year old daughter. Thanks for sharing the reality of your life… so laugh out loud funny…and your great attitude of acceptance and joy. I am learning so much from you.

Who is tiffani?

Mom, Wife, author of Loving Tiara, retired home stager, and chronic volunteer. I laugh when I'm happy, nervous, or stressed, so basically, I'm always laughing, and you can hear me from down the block if the windows are open. I love to swear even though it isn't ladylike, and I'm brutally honest, but in a super nice way, or so I think? I tend to roll my eyes, and apparently, my face is very expressive because even when I don't open my mouth, everyone knows what I'm thinking. My hubby and I are homebodies; I'm obsessed with always doing the "right thing " and taking care of my skin. I love learning, am always trying to evolve as a human being, and am a bit of a perfectionist. Let's have some fun! xoxo tiffani
