Have you ever done a crayon sweep?

Jul. 18, 2012

Tiara in the middle of the crayon sweep

As all my regular readers know, Tiara has a serious obsession with crayons.  I usually buy 5 packs every time I visit Target and hide them in the hall closet.  Everyday, she asks “more crayons, more crayons.”  even though her basket is overflowing.  She just loves the smell and feel of the new crayons.  This is my assumption because she can’t actually verbalize why she always wants new crayons, but I think this is why.  I love new crayons too.  So every other day, I pull out a new box and give them to her.  She gets so excited and thanks me over and over again.  It practically makes her day, and more importantly it keeps her busy for about 15 minutes as she looks at all the clean unbroken new crayons.  That 15 minutes of freedom without her screaming, choking me, sitting on my lap or asking for more food is so worth the cost of the box of crayons.  I would give her a new box of crayons everyday, all day, but then it wouldn’t be as special and my 15 minutes of bonus time might disappear.

On a day I don’t give her a new box but she is harassing me for more, we do a big crayon sweep.  We do this about every 10 days.  It always starts on a day that I have a zillion things to do in the house and I feel like doing none of them so I decide why not pull out the couch and search for crayons?  “Hey, TT do you want to look for crayons under the couch?”  “Yes, Yes,” she says and plops herself in the middle of the family room to wait for the show.  One by one I move each piece of the sectional.   We stop and we look underneath to see what treasures we will find.  We then swift the floor and dust the wall, how it gets so dirty in such a short period of time is rather unbelievable.  Under each piece we find between 5 and 20 crayons along with assorted other items.

After I have the whole couch separated and spread around the room, I have worked myself into a frenzy looking at the new marks and stains that have appeared on my couch since the last sweep.  So I whip out my special leather cleaner and get to work as Tiara obsesses on all her new crayons and slowly starts breaking them and making them fit in with all the others in her stash.  I know, I know, I have received several comments on the fact I have a white leather couch, and I know it is pretty insane, but it really makes me happy even though it is so much work. So whatever, no one in my family thinks I am totally sane anyways.

In conclusion to this amazing story about me cleaning, once again, we had a very successful crayon sweep.  Our crayon total hit about 50 and we also found 2 of her favorite books.

On another note, if you read my post yesterday, you know I had Juvederm which was extremely painful.  FYI, the pain continued all throughout night as my face throbbed and throbbed and I laid there cursing myself.  “What have I done?  I am so not feeling good right now.”  I then woke up and looked a little bit like a chipmunk.  Oh Joy, hoping I am not permanently disfigured, but since I am a notorious sweller and bruiser I am keeping a positive outlook and staying away from mirrors for a few days.  Wish me luck.

Have a great Wednesday….

Who is tiffani?

Mom, Wife, author of Loving Tiara, retired home stager, and chronic volunteer. I laugh when I'm happy, nervous, or stressed, so basically, I'm always laughing, and you can hear me from down the block if the windows are open. I love to swear even though it isn't ladylike, and I'm brutally honest, but in a super nice way, or so I think? I tend to roll my eyes, and apparently, my face is very expressive because even when I don't open my mouth, everyone knows what I'm thinking. My hubby and I are homebodies; I'm obsessed with always doing the "right thing " and taking care of my skin. I love learning, am always trying to evolve as a human being, and am a bit of a perfectionist. Let's have some fun! xoxo tiffani
