Does a piercing for Christmas bring joy? NO

Dec. 20, 2012

ear copy

I definitely know there are worse things in life than an ugly piercing so I am not going to get really riled up over this one, BUT REALLY?  Why ruin a perfectly beautiful, small dainty ear with this ugly steel rod?  I just so don’t get it.  I guess  you know by now this is Tabitha’s ear with the new hardware in it .  I think from this angle it actually looks like a miniature barbell that her ear is trying to hold up.

Last night the dog was barking crazy and I got up to see what the problem was.  My lovely daughter was taking her time sauntering into the house with this thing in her ear.  I wouldn’t have even noticed at 1:30 in the morning but she felt compelled to show me right away.  UGH, now how am I ever going to get back to sleep after seeing that gross thing.?   She then went into some explanation about a midlife piercing crisis at 19 years old, wow I guess am beyond senior citizen if 19 is midlife.  She knew I wouldn’t like it and knew I wouldn’t get mad but I don’t think she expected me to say” it was hideous”.  She finally went to bed and left me alone and of course I got up 2 more times after she totally spun out my sleep.

At 3:30 am I woke up and realized I had forgotten to include the marshmallow on the fudge recipe for my post.  I mean how could my brain even know that while I was sleeping?  I bolted out of bed and went to the computer to see if my brain was right or I was just imaging things.  Sure enough, I hadn’t included it on the recipe.  I made the adjustment and went back to bed.  It’s not like anyone was going to wake up at 6am, see my recipe and go to the market for the ingredients. Logically I knew that it could have waited until the morning but I knew my chances of sleeping were getting slimmer and slimmer by the minute and I was rather fascinated at how my brain retrieved that information while I was sleeping.

After I went back to bed, I lay there contemplating how our brains work.  I have to have these conversations with myself because no one else in my family is interested in discussing stuff like that.

Oh, back to the hideous rod in her ear.  Anyway this morning she couldn’t stop talking about the gross piercing and the people at the ‘TAT SHOP” as I called it.  Knowing our family it will be infected in a week and she will be forced to take it out so I figure it is only a matter of time before it disappears.  Of course there is also the possibility Tiara will pull it out before it gets infected.  OUCH!    She was actually scared to hug TT this morning because Tiara seemed fascinated with the rod.

We did laugh about the fact that if Tiara didn’t have special needs she would be covered in piercings, tattoo’s and would be sneaking out her window at night to meet boys.  OMG, I just realized I forgot to tell you what happened last Friday.

Tiara and I were at Target at the check out and I was talking to one of my favorite employees.  Tiara was sitting in her wheelchair in front of me and we were talking about what I was wearing to Lou’s work party.  I am actually friends with the employees at Target since I visit them everyday.

I wasn’t paying attention to Tiara until I heard her say” dress”.  I looked down and she had her shirt and tank top off and was sitting bare chested with her double “D” boobs hanging out for everyone in Target to see.  I grabbed my huge pink purse and threw it over her chest and quickly tried to get on her shirts back without exposing too much of her.  She hates wearing bras, so I always put 2 shirts on her so if she tries to strip in public I can usually stop her before she gets to the second shirt.  Guess I wasn’t fast enough this time.

I tried not to look around and see how many people were staring at us.  I couldn’t help but miss the gaze of horror coming from the woman behind us but when I looked at the checker  she said, ” Well, I guess she wanted to try on the new dress.”  We both laughed and I got out of there as fast as possible.

Have a wonderful Thursday and I hope you are almost ready for Christmas!!!

I have never been one of those to go for all the piercings and such. I have four holes in one year, three in another. I only use two now. Even then I never used rods.

But…it’s a stage that most girls go through. I think I had a mid life crisis around 19 too so ..the bright side? It’s a phase.
She’ll look back at this when she’s older and think. Ugh, why did I do that?

Yes, I laughed and I laughed again yesterday when it almost happened again but this time in the snack area. This time I caught her before she got her shirt all the way off and the lady working behind the counter loves Tiara so much and thought it was so funny she gave her a free popcorn and diet coke!

Get over it girlfriend! It took me until the tender age of 40 to get the balls to pierce my nose because I was afraid of my mother. Glad your daughter feels that she can rock what she wants to…and she is beautiful!! Remind me of this please when Libby wants to pierce her something or other…ok??? 😉 At least she waited until after 18???

You’re funny! I know she is a beautiful girl and generally very classy, despite the hardware, I actually have fun giving her a hard time. I will definitely find you and remind you to get over it when Libby pierces her belly button or tongue! HA HA

Funny, on the top of my oldest daughter’s (16) christmas list was something similar:
“double mid and cartilage piercings” … and she added as a side note using 3 different colored highlighter pens (for emphasis I guess) “belly button piercing for 17th birthday, mentally prepare yourself mom because I will be asking”.

My response was Santa doesn’t bring pets or piercings. Perhaps that will do for now. I hope.

Who is tiffani?

Mom, Wife, author of Loving Tiara, retired home stager, and chronic volunteer. I laugh when I'm happy, nervous, or stressed, so basically, I'm always laughing, and you can hear me from down the block if the windows are open. I love to swear even though it isn't ladylike, and I'm brutally honest, but in a super nice way, or so I think? I tend to roll my eyes, and apparently, my face is very expressive because even when I don't open my mouth, everyone knows what I'm thinking. My hubby and I are homebodies; I'm obsessed with always doing the "right thing " and taking care of my skin. I love learning, am always trying to evolve as a human being, and am a bit of a perfectionist. Let's have some fun! xoxo tiffani
