My friend, Lanaya over at Raising Reagan gave me the Inspiring Blogger award today and I am finally accepting this one! Thank you Lanaya!
I have received a few awards in the past but sadly I don’t always accept them because that means writing a post about the award and then passing it on to several other bloggers. I don’t have time to follow many blogs and sometimes I find the questions hard to answer so I usually thank the person who presented me with the award and move on. Pathetic, I know, but I can only do so much.
Today I decided to accept the award, as I love to be inspiring and I only need to tell you a few facts about myself, of which you don’t already know. Since I am such a blabber mouth about my life and my thoughts this hasn’t been that easy. I have been trying to come up with a few interesting facts all day. So here is what I came up with.
1. I don’t have favorites. I don’t have a favorite movie, a favorite song, a favorite food or a favorite color. It drives Trinity crazy, as she is always asking me what is my favorite this or that is and I never have an answer. It also drives my husband crazy because he thinks he knows what I like but I change all the time, for example. I used to eat a plain bagel with butter, then it was a bagel with lox cream cheese, then it was a plain cinnamon raisin bagel with raspberry jam from home, then it became a whole wheat bagel with mustard, and now? I rarely ever eat bagels! You just can’t win with me.
2. As a child I always wanted to wear white clothes and shoes but my mother refused to buy me anything white because I was super clumsy and always spilling on all my clothes and scuffed my shoes after only wearing them one day. My heels were constantly worn down and it drove my Mother crazy. If I didn’t have to worry about messes I would wear tons of white and most of my furniture would be white.
3. I love to sleep on my side but I always sleep on my back so I don’t get more wrinkles on my face.
4. I don’t know the exact day I met Lou nor do I remember the date of our first kiss. I never remember the date of anything memorable, except my kids birthdays, but I can always remember what I was wearing during any important event.
5. As a teenager I would take walks on the beach by myself all the time. I have always been comfortable spending time alone either walking or riding my bike, even as a young girl.
6. The first art class I ever remember taking was in Huntington Beach and I was 5 years old. We took a dead fish(weird huh?) and dipped it in royal blue paint and made an impression on a long rectangular red piece of paper. I was fascinated by the dead fish and my Mom framed the image and it hung in my room. It stayed there most of my childhood and I still have it somewhere in the attic.
7. Oh this is a good one. Growing up I lived in a community by the beach. The community was surrounded by a canal which was pretty gross. It was too dirty to ever swim in and the water was really oily. One summer my friend and I discovered that huge sea slugs lived in the canal. I have always been fascinated by sea life and gross stuff. We thought it would be a good idea to clean the canal of the slugs. We fished out as many as we could and put them in black garbage bags and tried to drag them home. They were as big as rats and some were even bigger. When they got stressed they would squirt a purple liquid from their bodies as a defense mechanism. As we were dragging the bags home, a few of the bags broke and the slugs scattered all over the road. We didn’t know what to do and didn’t have time to pick them up before a car ran over a few. Purple went everywhere all over the street and on the car. We finally realized what idiots we were and tried to return as many as we could back to the canal. The neighbors went ballistic and so did our parents. What a freak I was.
8. That story reminded me of the time I went to Tennessee when I was 6 years old. My uncle shot a squirrel for dinner, yes I know, how gross is that and he threw the tails in a bush. My cousin and I really wanted the tails and we found them in the bushes. I wrapped mine up, put it in my suitcase. took it home and hid it in my closet until the smell got so horrific my Mom made me search my closet for the source of the smell. The tail was filled with maggots decomposing in my closet. See I have always loved gross stuff. ( I may told you this one?)
9. One of my favorite classes in high school was advanced biology. We did a 2 month section of birds and had to go bird watching all the time and collect data. I loved bird watching and I often think about that class and wish I remembered the names of all the birds I spotted during that time.
10. Apparently mosquitoes love to bite me. I went to Yosemite at 12 years old and got over 100 mosquito bites.
11. I miss our dog Bailey more than I ever imagined. I think of him everyday and I miss him most when we come home from the hospital. He used to be so excited to see me. Life is much easier without him but I miss him terribly. Just thinking about him brings tears to my eyes.
12. If I could have any career in the whole world, without worrying about time, money or education I wouldn’t change a thing! I’d be a mom to my kids.
I would like to pass the inspiring blogger award to these amazing ladies:
1. Jamie Miles because she always inspires me to keep writing through her thoughtful comments and wonderful posts. She is a gifted writer and I love reading her posts, they always make me laugh and think. She never holds anything back and I would love to meet her in person some day.
2. Stacie from Give a Smile Today. I have been following Stacie’s blog, Makeup Obsessed Mom for a long time but she recently started a second blog in honor of her deceased Mother. She has built a list of supporters, who send cards to those who are sick and in need of some cheering up. Tiara was the recipient of her wonderful service and has received so many beautiful cards and sentiments from all over the country. For this reason she is truly an inspiring blogger.
3. Gina from Special Happens Gina has developed an online special needs community blog which provides a great service to many families raising children with special needs. The special needs range from bipolar teenagers, autism, to downs syndrome, to rare disorders you have never heard of . The site is growing, has wonderful contributing writers and you can always find something inspiring on her site, no matter when you visit.
That’s it friends! Have a wonderful weekend and look for my Hair Journey Post on Monday. I am sooooo excited!
Also, I have received lots of response regarding my comment about focusing mostly on Tiara in my posts. Apparently you like my posts the way they are and enjoy seeing how I balance a special needs child with healthy children, so it looks like everything will remain the same. Thanks for the input!

I’m NOT a girlie girl and I used to play with worms and even I was repulsed by that slug. I got the chills. It looked like a placenta. Super gross!
You look no different than you did in that picture with your dog from 15 years ago. Not even a day older. Whatever you’re doing to your skin is working – or it hasn’t worked at all but you have really good genes.
I love being a mom but I couldn’t imagine being a full-time mom. I tip my hat to full time mothers!

Wish it was 15 years ago, but it was 5 years ago. The I looked like a one but thanks for the compliment. xoxo

Girl you crack me up! That sea slug thing. That certainly explains number 9. Maybe medicine is in your future . . .
And thank you for the kind words. When I become a tearful mess because of some trauma in my life — or feeling under appreciated by kids and worn out from trying to wrestle with their wills — I think of you and how you go the extra mile with Tiara. How you make a home of laughter for Lou and all your girls. And yes…we will meet some day.
it was fun to learn more about you and can’t wait to read Stacie and Gina.

I tell you all the time that you are an inspiration! So I am honored that I inspire you. I’m glad we connected somehow in the blogosphere (don’t recall how or when, but I know it’s been a while).
These facts about you are GREAT! You crack me up that gross things don’t bother you. Actually you seem to be attracted to them. LOL!! Thanks for sharing!!
