Well, after yesterday’s post I thought I would do something a little lighter and tell you the story of how Lou and I met. I love this story. I was a Pi Phi at San Diego State and an SAE little sister. I lived in the Pi Phi house and was the pledge trainer. When I wasn’t at the Pi Phi house I was at the SAE house. All my guy best friends, and boy friends were SAE’s. On the first TG (party on a Friday afternoon) of the semester, Fall 89, I met Lou. I had seen him during rush and had my eye on him from afar. We started talking or rather I was talking incessantly and he barely said a word. He just kept staring at me, so I wasn’t sure what he was thinking. After about 45 minutes into our one sided conversation he looked at me and said “I am late to pick up my mom from the airport do you want to come with me”? Hum, well I really wanted to but I thought that would be a little awkward since I had just met him and I had a boyfriend at the time. So I declined. I was rather intrigued since most of the guys always had so much to say and were always trying to talk girls into something or another and he was so quiet. He certainly didn’t look shy, he actually looked like quite the player, especially since he drove a white convertible BMW. Ok, that did increase my attraction somewhat, because I will admit, I may been a little superficial back in the day, but I decided I better figure out how to get to know him better. So I formed a plan, being the manipulative, conniving sorority girl that I was.
You probably think I am terrible since I had a boyfriend at the time, but this boyfriend was a new development and definitely out of character for me. He just wasn’t my type. He was a little boring and wanted to eat at places like “the Red Losbster” and then ask me to pay half the bill. What? He also kept telling me you should always floss your teeth before you brush, so weird. I mean what frat guy even flossed their teeth? None that I knew, or at least spoke about it on regular basis. Oh well, I knew it was very short lived even though I am not sure he was of the same mindset. Oh God, I hope he doesn’t read my blog, well I have never seen him on Facebook, or rather I have never even looked, so hopefully not.
Anyway, one of my best buddies, Grant was in charge of the little sister liaison program. Since Lou was a new pledge,he would get paired with an SAE little sister of his choosing and I decided, it should be me. I told Grant to pair us up but he said Lou had to write my name down. Whatever. Since Lou and Grant were friends from high school, Grant mentioned to Lou he should put my name down as a little sis. Lou said , “No, I don’t want her as my little sister.” So Grant came back and broke the news to me and said, “he doesn’t want you as his little sis, Tiffani.” “Like I care, you better just give him to me!” Grant then said he would ask Lou again because it wouldn’t be fair to Lou to just give him someone not on his list. So you can guess that the second time around Lou’s response was the same NO.! ” What , why wouldn’t he want me as his little sis, that doesn’t make any sense?” Grant then explained, “Lou does not want you as a little sis because you have a boyfriend, he wants a single big sis.” OHHH, he wants a slutty available big sis and I did not fit that bill. Apparently, the guys often “hooked up” with their big sister’s so Lou thought I was a bad choice. As you know by now, not much stops me, so I told Grant he didn’t have a choice and he owed me. I am so laughing, because he didn’t owe me anything but I can be so difficult he just did it. He then threatened me that if Lou was mad at him, I was in for it.
So the week leading up to revealing you are supposed to leave little surprise gifts for your little brother at the frat house. Of course, I left him lots of gifts and made him the cutest beer bong with a matching cooler ever. On the last day, you leave them an outfit to wear for the revealing. I had bought Lou a yellow terry cloth tube dress from the thrift store and he actually wore it. He was super drunk, like all the guys and they walked from girl to girl in a circle and stopped in front of the girl they thought was their big sis. Luckily my boyfriend had to leave the revealing early, (oh did I mention he was an SAE pledge too) so I didn’t have to worry about him. I had conveniently not told him that I had taken on a little brother. Boy I am sounding more manipulative by the minute. So back to the story, Lou is walking and walking and stopping and stopping in front of every girl there except me. Finally I leap forward and say “it’s me!” He looks at me, grabs me around the waist and goes in for the kiss. And that was it. I pulled away fairly quickly because I still had a boyfriend and everyone knew so I didn’t want to be rude to him in front of all his pledge mates, but he had me at the first little kiss. Then I walked Lou to his car and drove him home since I was sober and it was then that I met his best friend, Damon for the first time. Love Damon.
The next day he called me and asked if he could take me to dinner to thank me for all the nice gifts I had given him during revealing week. Of course I said yes but then I made another plan. I called my boyfriend and asked him to come over. When he arrived, I broke right up with him and sent him on his way. He seemed a little shocked and didn’t really take it that well, but I was feeling super happy. I knew Lou and I were going to be a couple and I would never be a cheater, so I knew I had to break up with him right away. I went for a 3 mile run, took a shower, got ready and borrowed Mara’s leather pants for my date. Lou arrived a little late, but with the top down and a chilled bottle of Champagne in the cooler I made for him. He opened the door for me and we drove towards dinner. After a few minutes, I nonchalantly mentioned I had broken up with my boyfriend. He looked over at me, grabbed my knee and said “oh yeah, let’s go!”
So from that night on we were pretty much inseparable but we didn’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings so we didn’t tell anyone, except our very best friends. No one at the SAE house knew and only my best BF”S knew. Apparently Lou still kinda had a girlfriend at another school and they were allowed to date other people, but probably not fall in love with other people so he still had to break the news to her. And so we dated for 3 months until left I left to study abroad in Paris for the next semester. We promised each other nothing and said whatever happened, happened. So I left for Paris so sad and devastated and thought we may never be together again. But Lou apparently felt the same way about me as I felt about him because on my first day there I got a page across the corridor that I had a call. I was so baffled because I had already spoken to my parents since arriving. I went to the phone and it was Lou, calling me to tell me he missed me already.
Happy Thursday….

I LOVE the story Tiff! I remember it well and was cracking up the whole time I was reading it. I can hear Lou clearly saying, “Oh yeah, let’s go!” I still think of you whenever I see a commercial or ad for Red Lobster! Ha Ha!
