Well, for the first time in lots of years, I am ready for Christmas early! I have bought and wrapped all the gifts (even the Santa gifts, I normally organize and wrap at 10pm on Christmas Eve). Sent out my cards, while keeping my addresses updated on the computer each time a new address comes in (this is a serious miracle.) Hosted the gingerbread party, brought the adoptive family gifts to the church, baked pounds and pounds of sweets and sent them to Lou’s work and now all I have left to do is figure out what to serve for Christmas dinner.
Every year I do a turkey, and some other meat, potatoes, salad, Portobello mushroom lasagna and tons of desserts. For some reason this year, I suddenly HATE COOKING!. I have no idea what has happened but over the past few months my love of cooking has completely disappeared. Lou thinks it is because everyone complains about at least one item every meal, except Tiara my little dumpster who eats everything, I think I have transferred my creative cooking ability to my blog and since I don’t have time to do both well, I choose the blog.
I have barely been getting a decent dinner on the table each night and lots of times I reheat the girls pre-made stuff from Trader Joe’s and when Lou gets home at 10:00 pm or whenever he finally gets home, Tabitha makes him a dinner. Such a sweet daughter, despite the hideous rod in her ear.
Tabitha has become the best cook. She is super creative with her spices and ingredients. I was complaining about what to make for Christmas dinner about 3 weeks ago and she said “Hey, Mom I will make my tacos for everyone if you want? We can do a Mexican themed Christmas .” Tabitha makes the best tacos I have eaten so I gave the offer some serious thought. I ran it by my sister and Mom and they both said “great!” So this weekend I declared I was accepting her offer and I couldn’t be happier about it. So all I have to do is buy the ingredients, get the house ready and help her with the prep. I can see my future bright and clear. Get this kid a boyfriend, get her married off, help her find a great house to buy in our neighborhood and she can take over the tradition of hosting Christmas Day!
As I am writing this I realized I never opened an email from the room mom in Trinity’s class from a week ago. I just stopped to open it before the thought left my mind and guess what? I am scheduled to bring the holiday plates for 30 kids tomorrow by 11:00 am and I had no idea. Of course I have already gone to Target today and am getting ready for Trinity’s Christmas program tonight so I have no idea when I will get this done. Guess I don’t have everything done like I thought!
See, just when you think you’re super organized and everything is done you realize you are living in fantasy land and everything will never be done!
Have a wonderful weekend and you will hear from me on Monday, Christmas Eve!!!!
