Apparently I’m going bald!

Nov. 14, 2012

2 different views for you to assess!

So as long as I can remember I have had a cowlick on the right back side of my head.  As a kid I would shower in the evening and when I woke up in the morning I had this huge tuft of hair sticking up on the back of my head.  It seemed impossible to make it stay down, so I just tried to ignore it.

Well My mother would never allow me to walk around looking like that, so every morning she would make me sit down on her stool and go work on trying to make my hair stay in place.  She would brush, comb, wet, spit, hairspray it down as much as possible.  Eventually I had to leave for school and she was satisfied so I was able to get up off the stool.

By the time I was in 5th grade I started getting up in the morning to shower and wash my hair because I couldn’t deal with worrying about my stupid cowlick anymore, or rather worry about my Mom worrying about it.

So, now that I am adult, it still bugs me but I still have the same approach.  I just ignore it on the days I don’t wash my hair.  I try to tease up the right side but then I look lopsided so I just leave it and move on.  In the past two weeks Tabitha has told me on several occasions “Mom, you know you have a bald spot right?”  My response, “No, it’s just my cowlick and since my hair is brown it is more noticeable.”

Well, today I am starting to wonder if my cowlick has turned into something more, A BALD SPOT!  I walked into my sister’s store and my nephew was there and looked at me and started laughing and pointing, “auntie you have a bald spot on your head.”  My Mom who was also there, came rushing over and declared “I know, I saw it in church, SIT DOWN ON THIS STOOL AND LET ME FIX IT!”  UGH……  My childhood relived all over again.  My sister came out of the back room after hearing all the commotion and started hysterically laughing when they pointed out my “bald spot.” And finally out walked Tabitha to confirm ” See, Mom, I told you so!”

My Mom pulled her teasing comb out of her designer purse and started fluffing the right side of my hair, trying to cover up the spot where my hair parts or falls or whatever you want to call it.  Everyone started laughing even more because I looked even crazier at this point and she realized her techniques would no longer work on my hair.

They were all worried and wondering what I was going to do and I laughed.  I went home and asked Lou to take a picture of the back of my head and was shocked when I looked at it.  FYI, I never look at the back of my head or my butt, why waste my time and get upset over nothing.  Anyways, I was super shocked to realize that my head looked like I really had a bald spot.  I could my future staring me in the face.  I was going to look like one of those sweet old ladies that sits in front of you at church with on a few strands of hair but a really cute outfit on.

I mean, could I really have a bald spot?  I think I am kinda young and I was about to say baldness doesn’t run in the family but now I am having a memory of one grandma’s whose hair really thinned out as she aged.  Oh crap, it could be the start of something really bad.  Please let me know your thoughts when you look at the picture.  Bald spot or cowlick?

Have a great Wednesday!

Cowlick for sure! It just looks like a bald spot because your hair is dark.

I don’t know but I have the same issue! My hair is pretty thin too and I’m always trying to figure out how to hide it! Let me know if you come up with any great ideas!

As always, thanks for the laughs Tiffany! I love that you can laugh at yourself. I don’t know anything about cowlicks. Sorry. Whatever it is, you are still a beautiful lady! Stacie xo

I am having that same problem! Only a teen, but I have cowlick just like yours. I have thick black asian hair and I just try to cover it up, comb my hair to make it look like it’s my part, or put my hair in a low pony tail or half up hairstyle. Hope this helped! In the end, no one really cares and if they do then know they still care about you and a small thing like this doesn’t matter.

So did it turn out to just be a cowlick or did you end up thinning at the crown or thinning on your entire head?

Who is tiffani?

Mom, Wife, author of Loving Tiara, retired home stager, and chronic volunteer. I laugh when I'm happy, nervous, or stressed, so basically, I'm always laughing, and you can hear me from down the block if the windows are open. I love to swear even though it isn't ladylike, and I'm brutally honest, but in a super nice way, or so I think? I tend to roll my eyes, and apparently, my face is very expressive because even when I don't open my mouth, everyone knows what I'm thinking. My hubby and I are homebodies; I'm obsessed with always doing the "right thing " and taking care of my skin. I love learning, am always trying to evolve as a human being, and am a bit of a perfectionist. Let's have some fun! xoxo tiffani
