And once again, it’s time for the Christmas Card!

Dec. 05, 2012

I posted this pic on Facebook the other day but wanted to re-share in case you missed it. By Christmas day I will have up 6 ribbons over flowing with cards and everyone who walks into the house spends at least 5 minutes admiring all the beautiful families.  Such a fun way to display your cards.

Just so you understand me, I LOVE CHRISTMAS CARDS.  I love to send them and receive them.  Like many things in my life, before the recession, our Christmas card was a rather large production.  First I needed to get a professional photograph taken, then I needed to find the coolest most original card to showcase my family.  Back in the day, I seriously believed” the card” was a reflection of our family on every level.

No one wants a haphazardly designed cheapo card printed on crappy card stock because that would mean you are unorganized or lazy, have no sense of style and are struggling to make ends meet.  Who wants to portray that image?  I certainly didn’t.  Oh, my Newport upbringing coming out in the Christmas card debacle.

About 5 years ago, I couldn’t afford the photographer or the cool card and I was pissed.  I kept putting off the project and couldn’t wrap my brain around the fact that I just couldn’t have a great Christmas card, the way I wanted.  Super petulant child behavior, so I declared “this year we are not sending a card!”

Lou:  “What?  We have to send a card, we always send a card.”

Me:  “Well, if we can’t send a proper card, then we aren’t going to send one at all!”

Lou:  “Tiffani, you are being ridiculous, just order some from Costco like the rest of the country.”

Me:  ” I can’t believe you want me to stoop that low?  COSTCO CHRISTMAS CARDS?  I can’t and I won’t do it!”  (super mature attitude, haha)

I stomped off and Lou realized he wasn’t going to win so we stopped talking about the topic.  A week went by and of course I couldn’t stop obsessing on the fact I had no card and never in the history of my married life or childhood do I ever remember not sending a card.   I am pretty sure my Mom has never missed a year, nor had I.  What to do, what to do?

Lou asks me the next week “Tiffani you are running out of time.  Are you really not going to send a card?  If not, I will put one together myself.”

NOW THAT IS A THREAT!

Lou put together a card, OMG it would be hideous and there would probably be misspelled words and an ugly photo on it.  He has always known how to push my buttons, but he doesn’t usually need to.  Normally I come to my senses but clearly I wasn’t giving up my horrible attitude on this one until he threatened me.

“FINE, I will do one, and FYI, I so hate you right now!”  Don’t you love the way I talk to my hubby?

I went online and researched all the best places to get a card cheap and it looked like Costco was the winner.  OMG, I was actually going to send a Costco card.  Guess what?

It was an easy process, the card was cute and beyond cheap.  So, since that year, I don’t even bother thinking about going back to my old ways.  I clearly don’t have the resources to keep up with the Jones in the Christmas Card department so why try?  And really, in the whole scheme of life, how important is the quality of your family’s Christmas Card?  Probably not that important, or at least that’s what I tell myself.

As of yesterday I still didn’t have a picture and knew I wasn’t going to get one soon since Tiara’s mouth is covered in cold sores, so I just browsed through my iphoto, grab a few pics, uploaded them to Costco, picked the card and viola, I was done in 30 minutes.  I get to pick up the 150 cards with matching envelopes after 2:00 p.m. today and my grand total is: $39.45.

I mean how can you beat that deal?

At this point, if I win the lottery I am not even sure if I would go back to my old ways!

Happy Wednesday…

I love Christmas cards too. But once I figured out that 90% of the people I sent them to just ended up tossing them in the trash every January…. I have switched to an Online Christmas Card.

    Merry Christmas Tiffani and Family!

I love how you displayed the Christmas Cards. One year I got the cutest clothes pin hanger that someone converted into reindeers and it was so cute. I can’t find it so my Christmas cards hang on the side of the fridge. Boo.

This is a great idea using the ribbon!

Who is tiffani?

Mom, Wife, author of Loving Tiara, retired home stager, and chronic volunteer. I laugh when I'm happy, nervous, or stressed, so basically, I'm always laughing, and you can hear me from down the block if the windows are open. I love to swear even though it isn't ladylike, and I'm brutally honest, but in a super nice way, or so I think? I tend to roll my eyes, and apparently, my face is very expressive because even when I don't open my mouth, everyone knows what I'm thinking. My hubby and I are homebodies; I'm obsessed with always doing the "right thing " and taking care of my skin. I love learning, am always trying to evolve as a human being, and am a bit of a perfectionist. Let's have some fun! xoxo tiffani
