On Wednesday I went for a walk by myself. I don’t think I have done this in over 2 years. It was really cold and Tiara wanted to see her grandma so she came over to visit earlier than usual. I was going to work out at the gym but somehow Lou took my car eyes so I was stranded. I told myself you can do it, Tiffani, go for a walk all by yourself, be a big girl.
I headed over to the back bay and took a bunch of different trails and then wandered into the equestrian neighborhood. I love that there is a neighborhood 1 mile from my house filled with mansions, ranches and horses, right in the heart of Newport Beach. It is super cool. The funny thing is I kept seeing these signs all over the place.
I mean I understand the need to protect our Bay and keep our streets clean but really how can someone pick up after their horse.? As I was walked I also encountered many of these.
Of course I then spent the majority of the walk contemplating how a person could pick this much poop up while riding their horse. It is such a large quantity you would really need a shovel but how does that work? You are riding the trails, your horse has an “accident” and then you stop, dismount, unload your shovel and bucket that you have somehow managed to attach to your house and start cleaning while your horse stays put? Seems rather unlikely to me but who am I to say? I don’t have a horse, don’t ride horses, nor do I live in that neighborhood, so I guess it is none of my business. I will move on to the next story now.
Thursday I woke up and it was much warmer. My Mom called me promptly at 7:45 am to see if TT and I were available for a walk since the weather had warmed up. “Yes, we are, I will pick you up at 9:00am!”
We headed to the beach, but once we got out of the car we realized somehow the weather had changed in the past hour and t was freezing. Luckily my car is filled to brim with tons of extra junk so I had jackets for Tiara and I along with a blanket. As we started off walking on the boardwalk Tiara started complaining “it was cold.”. We decided to switch up our normal walk and head to the bay, hoping it wasn’t as windy there. FYI, changing our walk routine is always difficult for Mom and I as we are total creatures of habit, but we knew we had to make the adjustment or lose out on our walk all together because we can’t handle a mad Tiara.
Once we got to the bay it was much better and Tiara had settled into her wheelchair listening to her ipod. Suddenly she threw it down, got super mad and started leaning back in her wheelchair. She leans back like this often and I am always prepared but today she flew back with such force I couldn’t hold her. I tried with all my might but eventually I couldn’t stop her from falling and she flew backgrounds onto the pavement, taking me with her. My Mom and I screamed so loud, construction workers from all over came running up to us. Luckily she wasn’t bleeding and neither was I, but she refused to get up. She was laying in the street just resting and saying “Dad, Dad,” over and over again.
One worried guy refused to leave until she was back up in her wheelchair. I explained that she was just being stubborn but I couldn’t convince him. He looked at me like I was insane, but then again he didn’t know Tiara and her behaviors. I finally bribed her with the chance to talk to her Dad on the phone if she got back in her chair. She finally did, the man left our side and Mom and I continued on our walk laughing about the incident while Tiara whined to her Dad on the phone.
Anytime she talks to Lou in person or on the phone the first thing she always says to him is: “SHE’S MEAN!” He always says, “Who was mean to you Tiara?” Her response is always the same: she starts listing my name, Trinity’s name, Tabitha’s name and says over and over how mean we are all. Pretty funny considering she is always mean to us. He always indulges her and it makes her very happy.
Oh, back to the walk. Once we were almost done we crossed back to the beach side because our car was parked at the pier. As we were walking on the boardwalk we saw this.
A man standing behind a portable podium, facing the water, talking or singing to himself. At first we thought he was singing, but then we saw papers on the podium and I decided he must be practicing a speech. We discussed all the possibilities and I stopped to take a picture when my Mom came up with this idea. “Hey, go tell him you are a blogger, ask to take a picture up close and find out exactly what he is doing. ” “NO!” Even though she still doesn’t read my blog, she is always suggesting I walk up to random people and ask them questions because I blog. Super funny.
Mom: “Humm, please go ask, otherwise I will have to wonder all day about it.”
Me “You’ll be fine, Mom. We don’t have to know everyone’s business in the whole world. Plus, I don’t want to bug him.”
So we finished our walk, got Tt into the car and made a pit stop at Starbucks on the way home. A perfect Thursday morning, at least in my world.
Have a great weekend!

Thanks for sharing…now you have me wondering about the man on the beach…..what was he doing? Lol

Wow, I would have wondered what he was doing too. Starbucks is always a great start to my day too. I would love to live by a beach and go for walks like this, but I too would despise the cold wind. I guess you got to take the good with the bad. I’m a new follower on BlogLovin from the hop.
I’d love for you to check my blog out when you get the chance. Have a great weekend!

Enjoyed your post. I’m so curious about the guy on the beach. I wish you asked! 🙂

Sorry, I really think he was practicing a speech. The ocean can be pretty imposing, it bet speaking to such a vast entity could help with stage fright?

It is hard sometimes to just go it alone. I have never seen signs posted to pick up after your horse and I hate to think how that works into a picture perfect horse ride on the beach. I also am the worst leaving the house on a mission without a coat to find out..It’s COLD! Thanks for sharing it was a fun read.

Luckily, they don’t let horses on the beach in Newport so that is one place they don’t have to worry about picking up the poop. Actually dogs are only allowed on the beach during certain hours. Our town is rather strict. Have a great weekend.

Hi Tiffani – that is exactly what I think every time I take a walk in the Back Bay – how the heck are you supposed to pick up a huge load of horse poop? I love your posts!
You have a great way of describing situations many of us face at certain times – in your own unique way!
