A big change since Tiara has been home…

May. 08, 2013

tiffani goff

Some of you may not realize that Tiara hasn’t started walking on her own since she has been home from the last hospital visit.  As a result I push her from room to room in the wheelchair but she spends most of her time in the bedroom.  I feed her breakfast in bed, do her breathing treatments there and her medicine.  She falls back asleep by 9:30 am and doesn’t usually wake up until 11am.  Most mornings I go back to sleep with her as I am still a zombie.  I am so hating this exhaustion that hits me after every hospital visit. UGH!

The total upside to Tiara being wheelchair bound is MY HOUSE STAYS CLEAN!  I mean really clean, like a  house that belongs to a Virgo.  I can leave a pen out without fear it will end up all over my white couch.  I don’t have to lock the pantry or keep the triple locks on the front door in fear someone will steal food or escape.  I can leave out my books and organizer without worrying I will find all the pages shredded and colored on.  I can’t tell you what a luxury it is to put something down and know it will be there when you go back for it.  That is a gift!

Anyways, last night while I was cleaning the dishes she was all settled in her room when all of the sudden I heard the door slam.  That means she is standing up and closed the door.  She has done this several times and I let her do this to build strength.  I don’t run in and coddle her and help her because this is how she always works back to walking.  First she practices closing the bedroom door.  Later she makes small steps towards the TV and balances herself on the cabinet on which the TV is perched.  The third place she walks to is the dresser to change her clothes.  This usually happens when she is really starting to feel strong.  And the final step is when she walks out of the bedroom like a drunken sailor bouncing off the hallway walls as she catches her balance and walks towards the family room.

Last night I heard her coming down the hall and cheered for her as she made it to the kitchen.  She stopped to take a break by holding onto the kitchen counter and then what did she do?  She tried to grab my organizer and make a run for the family room.  Really TT, you aren’t that fast yet!

Trinity came in and saw her standing and was so excited she too started cheering.  We then had her walk back towards Tabitha’s room and knock on the door to surprise Tabitha.  We didn’t realize Tabitha was asleep and we scared the crap of of her.  Tabitha jumped up and was so confused to see her standing at the doorway all by herself she yelled.  OMG, Mom, what is going on?  “Ooops, sorry, didn’t know you were asleep.”  We quickly closed the door and moved on.

So it looks like Tiara will be back to walking full time in the near future. YAY!

Oops. while I was editing this she throw off her oxygen and went outside.  Looks like I need to keep a better eye on her.

On a side note, do you know when we bought our house the bathroom came with handicap rails, which we use everyday when giving Tiara a bath.   Also there isn’t one step anywhere in house, not even a step on the walkway, odd but perfect.  I haven’t ever had to make one adjustment to accommodate her wheelchair.  I keep thinking this house was meant to be ours even though I keep talking about moving.  I hope I never have to move, I love my house!

Hope you have a great Wednesday!

So glad to hear the love about your house because, Tiffani, the house seems perfect. It’s one level without steps. It’s beautiful. The gardens are beautiful. It seems perfectly sized for your family – a family that will probably lose their oldest to marriage or living on her own sooner than later (read: an office? 🙂

You love your home so much and it’s not only a constant, but a comfort.

I’m sure you’re thrilled to have to put your ink pens and planner away – better to have a mobile, healthy daughter 🙂

Who is tiffani?

Mom, Wife, author of Loving Tiara, retired home stager, and chronic volunteer. I laugh when I'm happy, nervous, or stressed, so basically, I'm always laughing, and you can hear me from down the block if the windows are open. I love to swear even though it isn't ladylike, and I'm brutally honest, but in a super nice way, or so I think? I tend to roll my eyes, and apparently, my face is very expressive because even when I don't open my mouth, everyone knows what I'm thinking. My hubby and I are homebodies; I'm obsessed with always doing the "right thing " and taking care of my skin. I love learning, am always trying to evolve as a human being, and am a bit of a perfectionist. Let's have some fun! xoxo tiffani
