Today I sent Trinity to school without a drink. I guess for most kids that wouldn’t be a tragedy but Trinity always run close to dehydration because she refuses to drink enough so I kinda panicked when I realized my mistake. When I was fixing her lunch I went into the garage to grab her a cold Gatorade from the garage frig but there was none in there. When I came back in I got distracted and forgot to put a juice box in her lunch instead.
Somehow I realized my mistake around 11am. Tiara and I were on our way to Target, so my plan was to buy her a Gatorade and a snack and deliver it to school once Erin arrived at 1pm. As soon as we got to Target and started to walk in Tiara had a seizure and wanted to get right back in the car. So that is what we did.
Ok, revise the plan. I will go to the store once Erin arrives and then go straight to Trinity’s school. Trinity had a softball game after school so I figured this would be best.
Normally I arrive at her school at 3:00pm, give her a snack and a cold drink, grab all her crap and then come back for her game at 3:30. Today I had too much to do before the game so I decided to bring it early and leave it in the office, since the game was away and she already had a ride.
Erin arrived at 1pm, I went straight to the pharmacy, then to Von’s for her Chex mix, Gatorade and cold Mighty Mango smoothie. I drove straight to her school, brought it into the office and asked the secretary to call her class and let her know I had brought the snack since she wasn’t expecting it. Ohhhh, mission accomplished.
I then drove to Trader Joe’s for my weekly shopping trip, went home unloaded all the groceries and made quick trips to TJ Maxx and Home Depot to make returns a few returns. I then dashed to Target with 15 minutes to spare to get TT’s diapers and yet despite all that I made it to Trinity’s softball game on time. I was feeling pretty good about myself until I saw Trinity sitting in the dugout. She looked tired, thirsty and hungry.
me: “Hi Hon, did you get your snack?”
me: anxiety building, stress forming in my neck….. “What do you mean, you didn’t get it? Did they call your classroom and let you know I brought it?”
her: “Yes, but I forgot to pick it up.”
me: “How could you forget?”
her: “I needed to get changed and get to the car and I got busy and just didn’t walk down the stairs that direction,”
me: “Here, take my water.”
her: “No, I’m fine. I drank from the fountain.”
me: “Take my water and drink it!!!!”
I was crazy mad. After all the worry and effort and she couldn’t walk down the stairs and grab it.
After the game she said:
her: ” I like when you bring my snack to me at 3:00, not earlier. I hated the macaroni and cheese you put in my lunch, you forgot a drink and I am so hungry and thirsty.”
me: “That is what I was worried about and why I brought the snack to your school.”
her: “I just want my snack at 3:00p.m.”
me: ” I know that but I had a bunch of errands to run and was worried I wouldn’t make it to your school on time so I brought it early.”
her: ” Ohhh, well my day was bad before that and now it is worse.”
The story of my life and every mother that exists. Somehow we always mess it up, no matter how hard we try to get it right.
Have a great day and I hope I get it right today!
