This Sunday is our annual Southern California Tuberous Sclerosis picnic so I spent all of Thursday getting ready. In the past we used the park BBQ’s and cooked hamburgers and hot dogs but last year I ordered Subway sandwiches. The sandwiches were way easier, but tasted boring.
This year I decided that the BBQ stressed me out too much because I worry about food handling/food poisoning and spoiling issues not to mention the special needs kids walking close to the hot grills and getting burned, so I decided to make the sandwiches myself this year. I mean how hard could it be to make cute little sandwiches for 100 people? Not very.
Yes, I know, I’m crazy. Last year the sandwiches tasted like air and they were expensive. I’m not paying for the food so I shouldn’t really care how much it costs, but I do. It just seemed like a waste of money. Plus I have such control issues that ordering food out for any event adds more stress to my life than making everything myself. Most normal people are the exact opposite. Making their own food for an event seems overwhelming and too time consuming, but not to me. All I can think about is whether the place I order from will forget the order, will it be late, will it taste gross, will they mess it up, will they etc., etc. etc…. and so my mind goes to every possible bad scenario. Which is exactly why we hardly ever eat out in our home, nor can I ever remember hosting an event and ordering take out or having it catered. Oh, I am going to take that back.
We once planned a surprise birthday party for my Mom’s 50th birthday and I had it catered by a Mexican food place. Oh now that I am thinking about it, I have ordered Mexican food several times for big groups, like Tabitha’s 13th birthday when we invited the whole grade and her 17th birthday party when she forced me to have 40 teenagers over for dinner. Oh that was a funny night, I posted a sign at the front door that said “No drinking, no smoking or drugs.” Ha ha, the sign really gave everyone a laugh.
Oh back to the picnic. So as of right now I have everything pretty much done except I need to pick up the drinks from Trader Joe’s tomorrow because they always donate the beverages. Love Trader Joe’s! I also need to pick up the helium tank and rolls on Saturday and then make assemble the sandwiches Saturday night. Easy Peasy.
Hope everyone has a great weekend. I know I will have fun on Sunday but I have to endure another cleaning session on Saturday because once again my house will be open Saturday from 2:00p.m. until 5:00p.m. It appears as if the St. Joseph statute we buried the back yard isn’t quiet working. Things are getting really dicey with the house situation around her but I am keeping the faith and keep reminding myself of what is truly important in life. My family!
