Last night I started on my piles of laundry that I had been ignoring during my home improvement mania, when I discovered the clothes weren’t drying all the way. Actually not at all.. Hmmmm. I was to tired to deal with it last night so I decided to ignore the problem until the morning. This morning I woke up and did a serious cleaning inside the machine with a hanger.
I put on a hospital mask so I wouldn’t inhale all the dust and I started pulling out all the lint that accumulates under neath the lint catcher. Kinda disgusting but a little dirt never scares me. Once I was done I tried the dryer again and it wasn’t spinning right. It was really slow. Ok, now what?
I went inside and told Lou the problem.
me: “Honey, the dryer is broken.”
lou: “Are you sure, isn’t it new?”
me: “No, the washing machine is new, the dryer is old.”
lou: ” Do you want me to bring some clothes to the laundromat before work?”
me: “No, just go to work I will deal with it.”
lou: ” Tiffani, please don’t try and fix it yourself. Please don’t waste your time researching the problem, then buying the parts and tools to fix it yourself. Just call a guy.”
me: “Hmmm, you know me too well. I am going to do a little research but don’t worry I will handle it.”
He left with that funny look in his eye that means he doesn’t trust me and my fix it yourself techniques.
I got on the ipad and researched the issue. Sounded like the belt may be broken. I decided I would tackle the problem once the caretaker showed up. Luckily my Mom stopped by so I headed out to the garage to assess the situation earlier in the day than I planned. I pulled the machine out from the wall and there was a huge pile of sand. What the heck? There was so much sand I could build a sandcastle. I guess it came out from all the beach days?
I then tried to determine which screws I needed to remove to access the main tub where the belt is located. I watched a you tube video on repairing a broken belt but it was for a different machine than mine. Mine opens in the back and this one was from the front.
I then called for my Mom to come and look at the situation.
me: “So, Mom, do you think I need to unhook the dryer from the gas line before I remove the back?”
Mom: “Tiffani for once will you just listen to me and call the repairman?”
me: ” Well since I don’t feel like messing with the gas and it could be dangerous, I guess I will listen to both you and Lou and call the repairman.”
Mom: “Thank you!”
So I called the guy and he is coming over tomorrow.
Looks like some home improvement items are even too daunting for me.
Thank you to all my friends and readers for all the wonderful comments of support I received about selling our house. I am feeling really good about our decision and it seems as it was meant to be.
Have a wonderful day!
