Normally, I would be so thrilled for the first day of school, the return to a solid routine, but I am not sure I am so excited about the routine. For starters Trinity’s first week of school, isn’t really a full week of school. They go from 8 until noon, Why? I have no idea, but it is like a teaser. As soon as I finish my walk and Tiara takes her nap, I have to go back out and pick up Trin and then I will hear, “what are we doing the rest of today?” I am pretty tired of people asking me this question. I feel like screaming, ” I have no flippin idea what we doing today except for making sure Tiara doesn’t destroy everything in her path, I get the house cleaned, the laundry gets done and everyone is fed. Beyond that, you are on your own!”
Why do these kids think I am their personal slave not only to cook, clean and serve them, but I have to develop their social calendar too? Not gonna happen. My new response to Trinity is “get on your bike and ride up and down the street.” Funny enough, that is what she has been doing and she is loving it. She is enjoying her independence. Tabitha is no better. You would think that since she is 19 and works a full time job and takes classes at night, she would want to get away from me. But no. Whenever she is home, which isn’t too much, she literally follows me around the house asking “Mom, what are you doing?” My response is usually the same, “What does it look like I am doing? Cleaning the dishes, sweeping, etc.” She then starts in on “want to do something?” “Yes, of course, I would love to doing something with you, but who is going to watch Tiara? Plus, you have laundry piled up to the ceiling, start a load.” “Hummm, not right now, Mom.”
I officially stopped doing Tabitha’s laundry as of 2 weeks ago and the pile continues to grow daily. Yet despite my daily reminders to put in a load, she has yet to do it. Obviously she has way too many clothes, to be able to go this long without doing laundry, but I think she did one load. Of, right it some how found its way into my folding pile. Very suspicious.
Lately, I feel like every time I ask anyone in our house to do anything, they always grumble an “ok,” with a sassy attitude and then they can’t complete the task without asking me a series of questions. I mean how hard is it to take out the trash, put on a tablecloth, put the laundry in the dryer? Why all the questions? I think they are trying to irritate me so much, I tell them to “get out” and finish the task myself. I am on to their game, so I stopped finishing the jobs myself and now I just ignore all their stupid questions. Wow, on second thought, it appears I do need Trinity to go back to school. She talks more than me, if that is even possible and I sound super grumpy and disgruntled.
As I am sure you can guess, I am one of those Mom’s who gets the school calendar for the year and proceeds to put every event and every date into my organizer up until the last day of school. The funny thing is that it used to be so important to get my schedule organized between Tabitha’s sports, Trinity’s sports and Tiara’s therapy and doctor appointments I was scheduled to the hilt. Now, my calendar looks bare except for Trinity’s activities. Tabitha has her own life and own schedule, Tiara and I sit home everyday waiting to drive Trinity to and from and Trinity is the only one with a life. Oh, of course Lou has a life, as he works everyday to support us. This is getting more pathetic by the second. I am seriously being a grump.
The good news is Trinity has decided to play on her school volleyball team, so I will get to be a volleyball mom for a short season. You have no idea how happy that makes me, I love watching volleyball. On that note, I better finish this up and start hounding Trinity to work on her serving and hitting. Ha, Ha, just kidding, yeah not really.
Happy 1st Day of School!!!
