If you have a teenager living with you, you understand the title of this post. Where is my stuff? Why is it that teenagers are smart enough to find everything they need of YOURS but can NEVER remember how to put anything back where it belongs? Hummmm. I guess they “just forgot”to return it to the proper place, or rather that is what my beautiful 19 year old tells me almost everyday.
Sunday, I woke up and needed the vacuum to clean up one of Tiara’s constant messes and when I opened the closet, my vacuum was missing. Really? I remember Tabitha asking to borrow it for work last week and I said “yes, but I need it back right after work!” ” Sure, Mom, No problem”. That was 3 days ago. A quick text to the beauty queen, resulted in my vacuum being returned within 2 hours.
I then went to pack up some stuff for a beach trip and guess what? My beach umbrella was missing. Wow, where could that be? I then remembered Tabitha took it to the beach last weekend so it is probably growing mildew in the trunk of her car with all the other junk. Another text to the angel. “Ohhh, Mom I think I put it back on the side of the house, where it belongs, did you look there?” Well, what do you think? Of course, I looked in the spot where it belongs and shockingly, it wasn’t there. Another text. to Tabitha. “Check the garage Mom.” Huhhh, “OK.” No again, not there, but where of where can it be? Another text to the princess. Her response. ” What street are you at, I will bring you one?” Humm, So like her Dad. When they can’t find something, lost it, misplaced it, God knows what happened to it, their solution: JUST BUY ANOTHER ONE. Wasteful, wasteful and more wasteful and one of my pet peeves.
Another text to my darling daughter. ” I have not left yet, still at home cleaning, just forget it!” One hour later in she walks with the vacuum and a new umbrella. You may be thinking how sweet? I grumble and glare at her and then ask, “where is MY umbrella?” “Oh, It is is Brianna’s car.” Wow, mystery solved, but still not in possession of my original Tommy Bahama 100 SPF umbrella, as of today. I guess lifting it out of Brianna’s car and putting it back on the side of the house is way to taxing for the girl who works over 50 hours a week and parties all weekend long. Do you think this will end when she turns 20 in January and is officially no longer a teenager? Please lie to me and tell me “yes”.
As I continue to mumble, I start a whole conversation by myself, to myself about everything that has gone missing in the last week, that I can’t seem to locate. My black slip dress, my tweezers, my Mac mascara, my Mac lip liner that I wear absolutely every day and numerous tops and skirts. I guess we all know where they went, getting them back is always the problem. I would get them myself but, who can find anything in this mess?
ABSOLUTELY NO ONE, NOT EVEN MY SWEET DAUGHTER.
The funny thing is, she tells me she is “known for cleaning” at other people’s houses. Really, I want some evidence of that shown at home!!!!
Have a great Wednesday and keep the sun coming. I am loving this weather…..
