Have you ever done something nice for someone and then immediately regretted it? That is how I felt today. Spring Break was so long and now that everyone, except TT and I were finally back to work and school, I thought it would be nice to do something new with Tiara. She is always talking about cows and horses so I thought ” Why not go over to Centennial Farms and let her look around”? I was having visions of her smiling like in the picture above and getting sooo excited once she saw all the animals. I figured we would probably spend about 30 minutes walking around and then go pick up Trinity from school. Well, that is not exactly what happened.
Once we walked in, she started yelling at me ” park, park.” So I guided her first towards the goats and that is where I snapped this great picture of her. After this she quickly stuck her hand out and I thought the goat was going to bite it but luckily he didn’t. I decided we better move on to see the pigs as goats are notorious for trying to snack on anything in sight, including clothes, so we quickly left. Once we walked the whole 10 feet to the pig pen, we were surprised to see the cutest baby piglets that were just born over the weekend. I let down my guard for one second and relaxed into the moment of watching the piglets feed, when Tiara grabbed a chunk of my hair and started tugging my face towards the disgusting banister that everyone leans on and all the flies land on. My gut response was to scream and push her off me, but I contained myself for the sake of all the innocent children surrounding us looking at the piglets. I quietly tried to pry her hands free from my hair and luckily on my third attempt, I was freed. “Park, park,” she said. I clearly got the message. As much as she says she likes farm animals and talks about them and has me read her stories about them, visiting them was not on her agenda.
So we left, a total of 5 minutes after we arrived and I felt a little deflated, like a flat tire. It was at that moment when I finally got her back into the car and pumped up the air conditioner I ponded “why do I even bother”? I guess, because I refuse to give up. So many times throughout the years I have dragged the whole family, including Tiara to parks, museums, rose gardens, flower fields, the ballet, etc and often the experiences would be great, usually for the other 2 kids, but sometimes the whole adventure would suck. So why keep trying? Because I try to be a good parent, as hard as it is. And in trying to be a good parent, I attempt to make all my kids as well rounded as possible by introducing them to as many new sights, sounds, cultures, skills, sports, etc. as I can. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t.
Luckily for me I always travel with a basketball in my car, so off we drove to Mariners Park, just like every other day of the week.
Happy Tuesday and don’t forget to subscribe to my blog and Like B. toffee on Facebook…..
